Especially ISH's and IDx's.

Are they very quick/fast?? Even if they are chunky monkeys?

My mums horse (middle in sig) is very chunky - he's from Ireland with unknown breeding but maybe IDxTB with some warmblood thrown in, but could be anything!! Anyway, he's not the fastest but can carry on for ever at a decent pace and I/we won an open TC with him and he finished ahead of a TB's!! I didn't know the rest of my team and they were quite amazed!

My horse Badge (far left and right of sig) is also chunky-ish, he had a good deal of ID in him anyway. He's substantially faster than my dads Irish TB!

Wondered what other's experiences were??

Any Irish ones we've had over here have been speed demons...

may be cos of where they came from

Lots of hunting, not much schooling

How big is he??

Badger looks like he could be 3/4 TB, but it's hard to tell from his breeding because they all are either ISH or RID!

But he's totally the same as your's!

Really covers the ground and has the heart to carry on forever!

Murphy is very fast when he wants to be, I put it down to the Arab in him, he's ID x Arab. I went out with the Farmers Bloodhounds and they are nutters when its a proper day. Considering he's only 15hh, we were at the front of the field most of the day until ..erm. I got tired.. and went through a few gates instead of jumping the huge hedges. And we were in the company of mainly TB types that were eventers or P2Pers.
He also has never lost a race out hacking, when in my youth and even occasionally now (I know its not the done thing to do), whether it was ex racers (crocked ones) or gymkhana ponies!

All the worst accidents I had in my breaking/schooling (ok, crash test dummy) days were with ID x TBs....I reckon they're all nice looking horses...but barking.

I'll second that...mines fallen over sideways on me, gone over backwards with me, bucked me off and broken my leg in several places and just recently gone over head first

BUT he seems to be slowly turning into a reformed citizen

Irish genes are very strong - in humans as well as horses. I speak from personal experience, having owned a Connemara and now sharing a part Irish draft. And being half Irish myself, I would say you could not ask for better blood lines

Had a conny when I was a kiddy....

she was the laziest sod ever...untill she got going...

I fell off backwards numerous times lol

Pidge is TBxID/ISH and although a solid chappy has a pretty impressive turn of speed
grin.gif
He also is pretty good on the stamina side of things too and just seems to really enjoy having a blast

Well, I'd like not to be smug but I'm going to be anyway!

My horse is fast, has a fab jump and is a fantastic safe (if strong) hunter!!

I've had him since he was 5 and he hasn't hurt a sole, or bucked, reared, spun round, bolted... Mr prefect! For now at least!

*touch wood*

He is a bit of a beast when he's SJ/XC/Hunting but a gentleman - I think I'm a lucky girl!

He's the middle one in the sig you won the open TC!
grin.gif

He pretends he can't do anything - but when he gets having fun he is a trooper!!
grin.gif
I reckon your guy would be as well!

I dont think my girl has the competitive gene - was galloping across a field with a friend ( definitely not racing though

) and she was lesiurely cantering and looking around, tried to push her on and she responded by bucking and going even slower...

I'd like to think she was cautious and sensible - in reality she's probably just lazy and stupid!!
