My OH has taken such a shine to our new boy that he's commenced riding again. I say "again" in it's loosest form... he only ever rode my cob mare about 4 times over 5 years ago so he's very much a novice, but being male is already making it look easy!! I'm delighted that he has taken a renewed interest and we are spending lots more time together... (although I can't see me reciprocating and wanting to join him on the golf course!)

Yesterday he rode in his normal trousers and I gently suggested that he might find things a little more comfortable in a pair of jods or breeches. He looked horrified as firstly, I think he'd feel pretentious because of his current lack of ability and secondly, he has a thing about tight-fitting clothing so I assured him that we can get him breeches with pleats at the front so that he does have some "room to manoevre", shall we say?

Would I be right in thinking that he'd be more comfortable in "proper" riding gear or am I just subconsciously hankering after drooling after him in the outfit? :o :D

Thanks

I did lol!! Im sure he would be more comfortable though, i know i HATE riding in jeans (and a definate plus for you!!) Im just jealous as cant get my OH within a metre of my horse!!

Probably just you, :D I tend too only ride in breeches but jeans will do.:o

He will definately be more comfortable in the proper gear and jods are more comfy than breeches so I have to go to our yard in jeans and put my jods on when I'm ready to ride and then I get changed again when back - small price to keep my bits intact though lol

I think it depends on the person. Breeches wont 'protect' anything, they'll just reduce the risk of rubbing and they'll be more comfortable for him.

Another vote for combats...........I always wear combat trousers, the ones that tie at the ankle. The British army type are perfect. I have a couple of pairs of 'budgie smuggler' Jods and I HATE wearing them. I have a brown Corduroy pattern type and a grey pair they can stay in the bottom of the wardrobe for ever, I'll probably use them to clean the car one day. Jeans a horrible and restrict movement.

OH wears stretch cotton jodhpurs, chaps and trainers/boots to ride. He finds jeans or othe 'non riding' trousers, desperately uncomfortable - especially if there is a lot of trotting involved, as they ride up and the seams pinch.

He is built like a whippet, so does look silly if not wearing chaps or boots, but comfort wise it's jodhs for him (in black, khaki or grey) and then a long polo or t-shirt on top. He was out in shorts the other day - but said the leathers pinched him, so won't do that again :D

My lovely ILO usually rides in his jeans and either trainers or long boots, but he has been riding since he could walk and could probably ride in a dress and get away with it :D

I only ride in wrangler cowboy cut jeans as they or designed for riding
with plenty of room and flat inseams , you will need to order them from the states, from drysdales or sheplers etc,

Oh always wears jeans or cotton jean type trousers, breeches (no budgie smugglars!) for competing in only! He is super skinny though so does look like a polo stick in them, so prefers more material around his legs!

My husband swears by equitech pants for riding comfort and avoiding showing too much off in jodhs!

He only wears stretch jodhs to ride as anything else is restrictive. He has tried pleat fronted breaches but aside from looking silly on his long legs he finds that they pull uncomfortably when riding. A long top saves jodhs from being too revealing.

Love this thread LOL! My OH finally succumbed to wearing jods after finding jeans really uncomfy (pinching etc!). He too has progressed from getting changed in the stable and triple checking no one's around to witness him getting on board to putting them on at home and bring brave walking onto the yard! He did turn a whiter shade of pale when I suggested we stop off at Tesco's and do a bit of shopping on the way home though LOL!

He's got some Hac Tac ones which says are really comfy....and his bum looks quite good in those too! :D

I wear womens jods, don't care who's looking and their comfy, holds everything together so not bashed about when riding.

My OH is the same! He wears womens jods, but is also size 28 waist, so found it difficult to get mens! They are masculine colours though! ;)

He wears them underneath combats, then takes combats off to ride, and straight back on when off. Used to go in just jods when we were on private yard, but now think he's embarassed bless him :D

bexcy-bee x

my OH rides in Mark todd breeches. they are very smart. Remind your other half that although they look a bit daft when you put them (narrow at ankles!) they look totally different when boots/chaps are worn over the top :D

Yup, absolutely! And a pair of chaps over the top... Far more attractive than bloke in boots / breeches.

Nice to see men are included sometimes in postings:rolleyes: as someone that hasn't ridden for over 30 years!!! I have promised my daughter that this year we will hack out in the New Forest together and she hasn't stopped going on about it since...so would be interested in what is best to wear...Think i would feel a bit 'odd' dolled up in a pair of jods, but of the many equestrian clothing sites that there are, men seem to be very overlooked and give you little choice but to adapt everyday clothing

Another one that isn't too afraid to admit to wearing women's jods. They're very much the same, and half the price. In fact, I find the women's jodhpurs looser and less revealing than mens, But again a huge polo top or hoody is the way forward! :)

When I ride I attire myself thus:

:D

Be still my beating heart!!!!!

Years and years ago we had a lovely ID ex-showjumper on loan for a winter that my Dad used to ride, he is a big rugby playing bloke but was always advised to wear women's jods, with swimming trunks underneath!! I'm not too mentally scarred by the whole thing fortunately!!!

My hubbie has expressed an interest in riding the horse I'm loaning, so maybe I'll get my dream of dressing him up like Mr Darcy!! (He would never dress up like Indiana Jones for me!!!!)

I wear jogging bottoms and boxer pants. Go out for up to 7 hour hacks.

You must have cast iron goolies:eek:

I always wear jods or tight breeches and long boots. I don't like pleated breeches much, they never feel as comfortable. I have ridden in moleskin trousers and walking boots, but I only did that once as every single hair on the inside of both my calves was individually plucked out. Long boots or walking boots and half chaps are a must.

As for wearing jeans or combats and then changing, PAH! Tight jods with 34" waist, knee length leather riding boots and 6'1" tall. The ladies swoon at my feet :D
