I always wear jods or tight breeches and long boots. I don't like pleated breeches much, they never feel as comfortable. I have ridden in moleskin trousers and walking boots, but I only did that once as every single hair on the inside of both my calves was individually plucked out. Long boots or walking boots and half chaps are a must.

As for wearing jeans or combats and then changing, PAH! Tight jods with 34" waist, knee length leather riding boots and 6'1" tall. The ladies swoon at my feet :D

Bite the bullet
Breeches.
They are comforable, help protect the undercarriage and don't look too daft.
I ride 5 or 6 days a week and I find jeans too uncomfortable.

Equitech pants or cycle shorts (to avoid the crushed n*ts) plus breeches of which my absolute favourites are the Mark Todd variety, soooooo comfortable, plus long riding boots.

I have now even become accustomed to wearing this attire to the shops.

Wore jeans and work boots just once, legs rubbed through almost to the bone after half-an-hour, so never again!
 
It's ok, I know I am shallow! No harm in enjoying the scenery though!!

I have no idea how oh manages in regular trousers. Once I rode in jeans as I hadn't planned to ride so was just what I was wearing - omg, such soreness and rubs!!!

As a male rider I can't speak highly enough of the Mark Todd breeches, can't remember the range, but the pleated front ones...a good range of colours...good fit..hard wearing.

Have tried the Harry Hall pleated front "Warwicks" I think, not bad...but not as comfy as the MT ones, Pikeur "Jupiters", bloody comfortable fabulous breeches, but too expensive for day to day.

For best a pair of pleated front Cavello's...for hunting or the like again, great fit, although I was a bit shocked at the waist being so elasticated...but v comfy.

Underneath...only made the boxer mistake once, ouch! Under Armour, do a cycling short type pair of pants... v comfy...

Always with long boots or half chaps!
 
You would all die a death if you saw what the lads in the yard ride out in. And to be fair the girls too.

Breeches and boots only come out for Open Days and Press Days otherwise the form is joggers/jeans/brown race breachs with wellie boots. Occasionally they will put on some Ariats and chaps or proper riding out boots. All the boys wear boxers as well - we get regular moonies going up and down the gallops to testify to this! Although everything is bundled up underneath padded waterproof trousers for winter.

One or two of the girls wear jods with boots and chaps or wellies. Skinny jeans are quite good to ride in if you can find the slightly stretchy ones. Other wise it's joggers all the way!

My OH wore jeans once for riding and was very uncomfortable. He has the Mark Todd breeches and loves them. He was embarrassed to start with but now happily walks round Tesco with me in his jods after a ride!
