question for breeders

can dogs be injected into season by the vet for breeding purposes

cheers was just wondering as it came up in confersation as my mare was jagged into season last year.

Yeah, i know its regularly done with horses, but never heard of it with dogs. There's injections to stop them coming into season, but not heard of one to bring them in. Maybe someone else will correct me though!

ditto UnaB, if there is it's not something widely used/practiced here. I'm sure it's technically possible but not something done to my knowledge.

It can be done, not sure if its guaranteed to work. As I said on other post I had a bitch of nearly 3 who hadn't had a season but vet advised against bringing her in as in his view could cause problems if I went on to breed from her. I reckon you are always best to let nature take its course with things like this.
