My sister wants to take up riding again after a - err - 28-year break and I was wondering if anybody could recommend a riding school in the area, preferably a smallish one. Back in the day I rode at Grove in Whiterashes, but understand it is long gone (I *loved* it there).

Sister is the Inverurie area.

Thanks!

That would be the Cabin Equestrian then. Or there is another one out near Old Rayne I think, but I dont know the name. The cabin is nice, not too big, adn not full of screaming kids (there are kids, they are just quiet!)

There is also Ladymires out by Ellon.........who I would say are possibly better, but a bit further to travel.

isnt there one outside Aberdeen on the road to Banff? on the left or has that gone

That will have been the Grove. There is a stud type thing I think it is - just outside oldmeldrum. But its not a riding school as far as I know - if it is where you think it is I know someone there, so can check.

I just re-read the OP and i guess your sis is older, so she may like the cabin then as there are some older folk there, I think most lessons are adult ones.

Thanks folks - yes, sis is 43 so somewhere that caters more for adults would be better. The Old Rayne one sounds like the sort of thing - I'll pass that on to her.

I used to ride at Hayfield in the 1980s- got to say I was never that keen on it, but they do have good facilities.

Ahh its a stud! my bad i used to ride at ladymyre and there used to be a school in gamrie i used to ride at hmm im getting home sick now lol
