Question for people with more than 1 horse/pony....

I bought the 2nd one to ride whilst the 1st one was lame, sadly he never recovered and was PTS so I bought the next one.

OH has a horse too so now we have 3.

After a long break of having my own horses, bought my LW cob then thought if I have to come to the shows why not get another to keep us company so got a HW as the classes run one after the other!!
Also hoping that in a year or two when they have grown up my OH will be able to ride out with me and enjoy them as much as I do!!
Downsides, double feed bills, shoe bills etc NIGHTMARE!!!

Ah, we were conned. Troggy found Toff in a livery yard, where she loathed the mare next door to her and seemed to loathe other horses in general, never missing an opportunity to bite or kick one that came too close. She also appeared to detest being in a stable, so we brought her home and stuck her in the paddock. She was in heaven, and settled down in no time with a big smile on her face. However, after nearly a year she became very clingy with Troggy, and was obviously lonely. We knew she wouldn't tolerate a mare, and Troggy doesn't have time to ride two horses, so we got a youngster. The theory is that he can be company for Toff now, and when she retires (she is 17 this year) he can be Troggy's next horse. I wouldn't say there is any less money spent on Toff, just even more as Beano needs things too! It doesn't actually take twice as long to do two horses as one, but obviously it is more time consuming.

i bought my second horse because my pony (12.2) was clocking on a bit- about 26ish at the time, and was about due a rest, so bought a bigger, and younger model! Then i was given the next because she wasn't wanted, and i was just lucky enough to be working at the yard she was kept, and i asked if i could have her, and the ex owner said yes! there's no way i'd cope with 3 if it wasn't from the help from my mum with the work... and the financial help from my OH

I had a lot of bad luck with lameness etc. and the time came that I could afford no.2. It does take the pressure off a bit if one isn't going well or off for any reason there is another one to concentrate on.

Bought my 2nd one to stop him being bought by a total b***h that was going to break him in and let her god awful kids play with him till they got bored and he was only 1 got 3rd one because he was at a market looking v sorry for himself and I am a soft cow(soft in the head I reckon) and i got 4th one because 2nd one is not fit to ride much ,vet advice. 3rd one is sec a too small. Did have to put 1 out on loan when number 4 came along. Luckily hubby has no idea how much I have paid for the 2 that I cant ride just a little white lie

My children used to share the welshie, but my son soon grew too big for him. It was a good excuse to put him up to horses so I could share with him

The reason I bought my 2nd horse (unbroken gelding) was because my first (gelding) was approaching retirement due to his arthritis, my third came along when I thought my first was going to have to be pts as he went downhill really quickly but as soon as I bought no.3 (fillly) he picked up and hasn't been/looked so good for ages (touch wood).

I bought my youngster because the old boy had had a superb endurance career, had probably three or four competitive years left, and I fancied bringing on a youngster. As is the way with horses, the veteran was diagnosed with navicular a year after I got my 3yo, so I had two years of twiddling my thumbs competitively speaking until the baby was ready.

i bought our horse as oldest daughter was getting to the stage where she needed roller sates on the pony! pony has now become number 2 daughters pony..am looking to buy another this year for myself so i can accompany 2nd daughter on hacks as she is still a tad nervous out hacking

Ummm, well we brought Blackie to get youngster experience and the idea has always been to sell him on, this will happen sometime this year to pay for GinaGem's new one as Gem is semi-retiring. Bodey was a replacement of Otto my last horse who turned out not to be the horse for me.

I have 2, got Brooklyn last year as a youngster to do some competing on & hopefully eventually event BE before I get too old and all my confidence disappears. My first horse Merlin is 20 (at least) and no longer really enjoys schooling or jumping like he used to, so he is having a quieter life now. I ride him a couple of times a week and have a friend who helps out by riding him for me. So he is still ridden a fair bit but without pressure.
I do however feel guilty / disloyal about spending less time with Merlin! And it is hard eg when i go to a fun ride, I now normally take Brooklyn to give him experience rather than Merlin, so I feel sorry for Merl as he loves that sort of thing (& is guaranteed to give you a good time). Can't afford (time & money) to take both!

OH also has a horse, who has had sooo many problems & been off lame so much over the last 3 years that he is seriously considering getting another too.

i have 4, 1 horse i ride and 3 pets!! archies is my 17hh horse i ride, freeway is my pain in the ass! he is a 3year old with locking stifels that i just keep giving money to the vet for but it dont seem to be getting any better brb! Billy my welsh a, best friend and then there is timmy, he is a new forest yearling at the right price but very sorry state so hes just been gelded and is now out for the winter getting fat!

Have 1 and will be looking for no 2 soon. Only reason is because no 1 has had to be completly retired due to ringbone so I shall be looking for a cheep to keep happy hacker type to keep me in the saddle.
