I had the Mc Timoney Chiropractor out to treat my horse last night and she said that whilst working on him he was showing extremely sensitive reactions compared with the amount of pain she thought he was in a put this down to both the pulsed magnetic therapy my friend has been using on him and the static magnetic therapy I have been using on him on a three - four times a week basis. He also had bioflow boots on overnight every day. Whilst I am not saying that I think the chiro was incorrect in what she was saying I was very surprised as I had never heard that using magnetic products this could make horses sensitive to pain. Has anyone else ever heard of this happening? The horse in question had a slight pelvic tilt and mild sacroilliac pain and his atlas was slightly out.

Thank you.

My vet and chiro both recommended magnetic therapy for my horse who was suffering from hyperaesthesia and hyperalgesia (increased sensitivity to touch and an exaggerated pain response) Neither could actually find anything wrong with his back despite MRI, gamma scintigraphy, ultrasound etc. But he still has magnetic wraps on his legs over night and a magnetic rug on for a few hours each day to prevent it from recurring.

I have heard stories of some horses who have sensitive spots where the magnetes lie.

These therapies are not going to work for every horse out there and it is possible for some to have a reaction to it. The magnets may simply have over stimulated an area.

Did your chiropractor show you where they thought the soreness was? If so ocan you back off the use of the products and compare the horses reaction in that area?

only way to test it is to stop using the magnets and get her back but not tell her you've stopped using them!

i use magnetic leg wraps overnight and a back pad for half an hour before work and highly reccomend both, my back lady syays the horses have been the best (in terms of their back muscles) they have ever been since i started using the pad and my livery pony shows such a huge improvement after using the back pad that no one could say its anything else.
