Is it possible for eye drops (for an eye infection) to leave a cloudiness or colouring in an eye which doesnt effect sight? Or is this not possible

i would get your vet out tomorrow morning! never take risks or time with eyes! it could be a number of things .. the drops (from the vet? unlikely) an ulcer, uveitis etc. please call your vet.

I don't know about eye drops making the eye cloudy. What are the drops for? My friend's horse has uveitis and has drops in but his eye is cloudy due to the condition not the drops.

Sorry i didnt explain myself properly. Its not my horse its a horse which im considering buying but apparently when it was a foal it got an eye infection and the eye drops have left it with a cloudiness/colouring in the eye! I was just wondering if thats possible? Ovbiously if i go ahead i will get my vet to have a look :D

how old is this horse that you are thinking of buying? yes definitely get the vet to do a thorough check of this eye. if the cloudiness is long term (more than 2 weeks) sounds like the eye is actually damaged in someway.

Please forgive me! However please do not buy without a vet looking in to the problem with the horses eye. To me it sounds more like an old injury which hasn't healed properly, partial blindness or even something a lot more severe.. Either way please get it checked so you know 100% what you will be responsible for and any problems it may cause in the future etc!

Its a 5yr so the cloudiness would have been there from it was a foal. They have had the vet out and they said that it doesnt effect the sight and wont in the future but i always thought a cloudiness restricted sight in some shape or form:confused:

No worries i wasnt very clear in my wording :D ... yes if we persue it will deffo be checked by my vet

Replied in vets. Please read. You need your vet out NOW. It won't be the drops causing the cloudiness, it will be the original condition (for which the drops were prescibed) running out of control. Your horse could lose his eye if you don't act fast.

If it has a coloured discharge it could be periodic opthalmia or moonblindness, which is highly contagious and hereditory, not good , lets hope its not.
Moonblindness is another name for Uveitis and is not contagious. It is caused by the horses own immune system attacking itself. My friends horse has it and has to wear a mask in bright light. The disease usually re occurs and gets more severe each time.

Either get an opthalmologist to do a vetting on the eye, or discuss with whoever you're getting to do the vetting - they would probably want an opthalmologist's opinion anyway - so it might make sense to do that bit first as it's obviously going to come up - the vet should be able to suggest someone local to you.

I went to see a horse that was for sale recently that had cloudiness in the eye, it looked like barely anything. It was vetted and it turned out it was scar tissue, retina damage and a cataract. It was only young but it already had partial loss of sight and it was likely to get worse with age. So it may look like nothing much but definitely get it checked out and I honestly wouldn't trust what the sellers say, as of course they will try and brush it off as nothing if they're trying to sell it.

I would definetly get it checked. I know a 5 year old mare who has a cloudy eye. She has a cataract and has limited vision. If you are looking at buying it, any problems should show up on its vetting.
