I'd be really grateful if any hoof people could help me out with this query. I took shoes off a navicular horse a few weeks ago and comparing a photo from a month ago to today the frog texture looks totally different. I forgot to ask the farrier about it, so thought I'd pick people's brains here.

in the august picture I can see a small circle of texture in the centre of the top of the frog. the texture looks like it's spread all over in the September photo. I've googled 'healthy frogs' and the images don't have textures like this, so just wondering is a bad thing/thrush etc. any info appreciated. on another aside, I can't believe the difference in heel placement/ hoof shape after only four weeks!

Great progress Paddi, just look at that heel! I think you have a frog that is now coming into wear that's about to shed a load of old dead stuff off the top. It wouldn't worry me, it should pack down and harden up in time.

ah right! thanks a mil.
thanks for all the advice on the other thread a month ago. I changed feed, got the boots and supplements etc and am delighted with the difference in such a short time. I had been told for years he was one of those horses that would never cope without shoes, so delighted that progress can be seen.
