Question on up rating 3.5 lorry to 3.9ton

If I do this, I know I am ok to drive it as I passed test in 1978. But what about my lorry sharer who is 26 years old and passed test in 2004.
I have 1300 kg payload and with two light TB this is ok with me driving and one other skinny min .

If you upgrade the mam of your lorry to 3.9t it will be illegal for your sharer to drive on her own. People who passed their test after 1st January 1997 are unable to drive anything with a mam of over 3.5t on a normal license. She would have to drive it as a provisional with L plates and someone accompanying her with the correct license or take an lgv test to drive from 3.5t to 7.5t. Hope this helps.
