Hi all,

I was just reading on another forum about some people doing Dressage because you get given a time and you don't tend to have to linger around like you do at a show.

This is exactly why I don't enjoy competing at Horse Shows and why I choose to do disciplines that have times.

I thought it was only me who felt this way.

I quite enjoy jumping but I can't be bothered with the hanging about which is why I have ventured towards Dressage.

Do any of you choose certain disciplines because of factors such as being given a time etc?

SJing isnt my favourite discipline (although am warming to it!!) but the hanging around is a distinct disadvantage!!!! Showing just tends to bore me am afraid as everything takes ages....although I quite enoy the actual "showing" bit!!

Eventing has all the good bits with times for each, genius

I do driving eventing so we arrive at the event Thursday or Friday, compete occasionally Friday and both sat and Sunday with the different phases. Makes it very relaxed and sociable as there is allways at least 1 big party per event!

I have converted to dressage from showing for that exact reason, eventing is great for the same reason! This is probably why SJ is our weakest phase as we really don't do enough of it - too much hanging around!

i love dressage as i like the accuracy and artistic-ness of it all.
plus my origional competition horse loved and excelled at it.
i do other comps to keep them fresh and for a change. did bit os showing in hand and ridden at county shows and did bit of SJ. was far to wimpy to do competitive xc with my ISH as she was excitable enough show jumping!although im sure with the right jockey she would have done well as shes so bold and nible.
new recently backed mare- will do bit of showing with her ridden classes(shes done in hand as a baby) mostly dressage- am aiming her at prelim and possibly novice this year.
bey wont be doing any serious ridden work until shes 4-5.
also like to do plenty of hacking and pleasure rides.

nope!
dressage is definatly my first sphere but deffo not the only one.
like to do abit of everything!have also got interested in working equatation(as in the spanish type- not the showing type) its really technical and interesting!they have a demo on at warrington show on monday if anyone is interested

I like point to pointing because you have times for that too!!
I agree with everyone else, as a showjumper born and bred, I am mystified why they can't do a times system, or even like time bands, limit entries to advance only and leave say 5 free spaces for last minute entry, that would mean a degree of flexibilty is maintained.
Two phase was a step in the right direction but has been a bit of a victim of its own success.
