my horse has had some hefty vet treatment and diagnosis recently. i checked with my insurance company first that the things the vets were doing was covered, which it is. i am without a dignosis at present although we belive we are getting closer. when i started my claim the insurance company asked whether i would like them to settle with the vets directly or to pay me. i opted for them to pay vets directly. but i have just had my first lot of invoices through from my vets.... am i expected to pay them??? there is no way i can pay them pending the insurance co paying out, i cant afford that hence why i have insurance!! do i just forward the bill to the insurance company??

You vets should be sending copies to you and also your insurance company. Just to worn you now some vets want payment made by you and then you get money back later on from insurance company. As the contract for it is between you and your insurance company not the vets.

Tell your vets that you are going though your insurance and then send your bills to the insurance company.
Your insurance might wait until the end of the claim before paying out but you don't have to pay anything until it's all settled.
Keep in contact with your vets and insurance so they both know how your claim is progressing.

Contact your vet and explain. What I had to do was to pay the vets for the excess, and after that they just sent the bills to the insurance company, but let me have copies so I knew what was going on.

I have just had my renewal and see that the excess has gone up from £130 to £200.
