Ok so my horsebox the past month has been being re-sprayed so we have been struggling without one tbh. So this got me thinking! We hired a 3.5 tonne one afew times at around £90 ish, as we had to go to the vets.

So got me thinking if there is much call for hiring small boxes? If so what prices are the going rate? Also apart from the appropriate insurance what else would i need?

This thought is all in the very early stages, just thinking you lot might give me your opnions.

Thanks.

Are you thinking of setting up your own business? I looked into hiring a box once and it was about £250 to hire one for a weekend which I thought was way too much money for the likes of me to take a fat hairy horse to a local show!!! My boss's wife used to 3 day event and they never had their own box they would hire transport including driver as they said it worked out cheaper in the long term than owning one of your own. I think it just depends on your circumstances and how much you would use a box.

Yes thinking of buying a box, and hiring it out. Just trying to see if it is feesable. Yes i think they are dearer to hire at a weekend, i think the one i have used in the past is £120 a day at the weekend.

Thanks

) daughter now has chance to jump a horse when and where she likes and has chosen show 4 hours away, and as it is 4 days she needs a box. i would pay £100 per day , perhaps a deal for longer. i think there is a market for it.

Oh thanks for that. I too *think* there is a market. Yesterday a liveries horse had colic and had to be rushed to hospital, they hired a box as they dont have one.

Hmm will have to do some enquiring!

For one box hire, at that kind of price, firstly you will need an 'O' Licence, VOSA are very hot these days, and I am not sure once you had laid out all the expense required for insurance and O licence etc you would make any money, if you had a few boxes possibly break even....

I'd start with DEFRA!

My OH has just about to start work for someone transporting horses but he would like his own business doing it one day and he's looked into that side of it! There is an awful lot involved and DEFRA are the one with many of the details.

Also British Racing School and British Driving Society are good places to go.

Hope that helps. Others on here will know way more than me and will help you no end. GOOD LUCK I really hope you get this new venture started and make it a booming success!!!
