1. How old is your horse?
Both are 17, going on 18 this year.

2. Has it travelled lots or rarely?
Both travelled lots, #1 very regularly

3. Does your horse travel in a trailer or lorry?
Trailer normally for both

4. Does your horse travel well?
Yes in a trailer, not in a wagon for both

5. Does your horse travel alone or in company usually?
Usually alone, sometimes together, rarely with other horses (i.e not stablemate)

6. Does your horse travel forwards, backwards or sideways?
forwards

7. If not, what does your horse do to make you think they are a bad traveller?
#1 unties himself and lies down (note, not panics and falls over, but is found having curled up and nodded off!)
#2 panics and thrashes about until you let him out.

8. Inside your lorry/trailer is it;
a. Dark? yes
b. Vented? yes
c. Partitioned? yes
d. Do you tie up hay inside? Not unless they are travelling together or a long distance as they’d fight otherwise
e. Is your horse loose inside or tied? tied up

9. Does your horse load well?
Both tied up

10. If not;
a. Is if affected by the direction your horse faces?
b. Is it affected by the horse having company or not?
c. Does removing the partition help?

11. Do you load your horse in a head collar or dually head collar?
Just a normal headcollar

12. Do you travel in boots or bandages?
bandages if travelling more than half an hour on #1, boots always on #2.

13. How long do you travel your horse for?
Usually up to 40 minutes. Have towed for up to 3 hours (plus two little breaks)

14. Does the time you travel for affect behaviour of the horse during and after the journey?
Not usually, though tired immediately after long journeys

15. Does your horse sweat whilst travelling?
not usually, can do if rugged and sharing trailer. #2 sweats profusely in a wagon.

16. Do you travel in daylight?
yes

17. Do you travel at night?
Not usually, only for evening show jumping in winter

a. If yes does your horse behave the same as during daylight?
generally yes

18. Is your horse always consistent with bad/good loading?
yes

If you have any other notes to add to this questionnaire please leave details below.
#1 loads himself, you open the ramp, he puts himself in, you shut the ramp then go round and tie him up.
I have been known to forget to tie him up and it makes no difference.
don't tie #1 up in a wagon now for fear of him having problems when he wants to lie down!
#2's problem with wagons started after he was given a lift in a wagon that wasn't driven considerately.

Lots

Lorry, won't go in a trailer.

4. Does your horse travel well?
No!!

5. Does your horse travel alone or in company usually?
Company

6. Does your horse travel forwards, backwards or sideways?
Sideways (though have tried him every way in an attempt to get him travelling well)

7. If not, what does your horse do to make you think they are a bad traveller?
He throws himself around, kicks the lorry to pieces, stamps, jumps up and down, throws himself against the partitions and runs on the spot - though he never used to - we still haven't worked out why he started doing it but have tried everything!

As short as possible - usually 5 minutes / 15 minutes for a change of location, upto an hour for somewhere "fun" but that's only rare now.

14. Does the time you travel for affect behaviour of the horse during and after the journey?
No, he's stressy whether its a short journey or a long one but we try to keep it as short as possible with him now as it's not nice for him to be like that and it doesn't look like he's going to change his ways - sad as he loves it when he finally arrives at his destination!

15. Does your horse sweat whilst travelling?
Yes

16. Do you travel in daylight?
Yes

17. Do you travel at night?
Evening if coming back from somewhere, not through the night.

a. If yes does your horse behave the same as during daylight?
He's calmer but I think that's due to him being "worn out" from his hack/day out - there is a light inside where they travel so he's not in darkness.

18. Is your horse always consistent with bad/good loading?
Yes

If you have any other notes to add to this questionnaire please leave details below.

Thank you! you're welcome! ;)

i tend to have various horses coming and going rather than one, but i'll go on my last competition horse i bought for myself *a fair while ago i may add!*

1. How old is your horse?
9
2. Has it travelled lots or rarely?
at least once a week, sometimes twice, and was imported into the country.

3. Does your horse travel in a trailer or lorry?
travels in both, but i travel him in my wagon
4. Does your horse travel well?
yes

5. Does your horse travel alone or in company usually?
he has traveled alone, but usually i have up to 5 others on board with him

6. Does your horse travel forwards, backwards or sideways?
got a bread van he travels backwards in, and my wagon is sideways traveling, he has traveled forwards in a trailer before though.

7. If not, what does your horse do to make you think they are a bad traveller?
excessive sweating/sweating, showing signs of distress, slipping/falling whilst in transit etc

8. Inside your lorry/trailer is it;
a. Dark? only at night, i do have lights that can switch on in the back, it's got windows on both sides
b. Vented? there are windows on both side that open and i have a fan in the corner
c. Partitioned? yes 5 partioned wagon and 1 partitioned trailer
d. Do you tie up hay inside? yes
e. Is your horse loose inside or tied? tied, however i have traveled a youngster untied

9. Does your horse load well?
yes

10. If not;
a. Is if affected by the direction your horse faces? N/A
b. Is it affected by the horse having company or not? N/A
c. Does removing the partition help? N/A

i load him in a headcollar

12. Do you travel in boots or bandages?
he doesn't tolerate travelboots and kicks the s***out of himself and the horsebox if he wears them so he wears nothing for most journeys (or if he's traveled tacked he'll have his jumping boots on) longer jouneys i bandage with pads underneath. (anything else i travel i usually throw boots on for short jouneys and bandages and boots for long)

13. How long do you travel your horse for?
anywhere between 15mins to a lesson to up to 6 hours if travelling to a far away show. Any longer than 6 hours to a show i find a yard to keep them inbetween

14. Does the time you travel for affect behaviour of the horse during and after the journey?
No

15. Does your horse sweat whilst travelling?
No, i have a monitor on my CCTVcamera in the front that monitors the temp and humidity of the horses in the back

16. Do you travel in daylight?
i try to, but if im coming back from a show it's somtimes night, or if i'm travelling early its dark

17. Do you travel at night?
a. If yes does your horse behave the same as during daylight?
yes

18. Is your horse always consistent with bad/good loading?
generally, he can be a bit wary to loading up a steep ramp, especially if it has no wings. i can let the air out though so the ramp is lower, and my breadvan ramp is barely off the ground!

forgot to say he jumps off the ramp when you offload him EVERYTIME, although with years of work he does it half way down the ramp, but he used to try and do it from the top when we first got him, it was defiantly a surprise when i unloaded him onto my yard!
