Questionnaire: Turn out

Done. Its an important topic, at the moment, horses on grass livery often are the poor cousins of those on restricted livery yards with regard to facilities. As long as clients continue to accept and finance yards poor turnout practices, the situation will never improve for leisure horses working for just an hour or so each day.

The idea of including the shelter in the fields is a good one (thank you!) and I will certainly include that in my discussion and a suggestion for further research. Any extra info and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

I agree turning horses out is a delicate issue on which lots of people feel strongly. This is the aim and basis of my investigation, to collect information on current practices which may highlight some areas or issues (ie yards not managing their land well, as you suggested, for example) which could be improved upon.

Again, I highlight that where the answers do not apply to you, please select the N/A option or type N/A in to the box provided so that the system allows you to progress - sorry for any confusion caused.

Again, a massive thank you to everyone for participating, I cant emphasise how important it is to me.

Keep submitting please!

Oh wow! Thank you!

Thanks again to everyone, I'm so pleased with the responses - you have all been so helpful so far! Please pass on the word and help me towards my goal!

LOL Most upset that I am unable to complete this. I am ok on all factors except that I live in New Zealand!!! I hope the answers were all you hoped for!! Alyth

Thanks everyone, really appreciate it!

Sorry about the not having a 24hrs option but if you encounter this probelm then please tick 12+ hours and select "no" for does your horse spend any time in the stable and then I will be able to decipher that he/she is out all the time. And add it into the any additional information box if there is anything unusual about your turnout practices or horse, as many of you have been doing which is excellent as gives me a good understanding of your situation.

Thanks again, keep it up!

Jess

Dear Jess,

I've completed the survey, but also pointed out a few areas for consideration in the box at the end. I have very mixed feelings about these types of surveys, of which I have seen a fair few in my role as a lecturer. In my experience, many students attempt these types of studies without a proper grounding in statistics and in Social Sciences methodology, and as a result, the data collected are problematic at best. I can see that you've taken great care in phrasing most of your questions, and nobody expects perfection at the undergraduate level---after all, you're just learning how to do this sort of thing! But please, please make sure you get yourself the best advice possible on evaluating survey data! I wish you all the best with your dissertation!

I am so glad the response has continued to be so good today! I was nervous it may just be first day success and I wouldnt get any responses - thank you all so much for filling it in! Let's keep it going - pass the link around!

Thanks

Jess

Survey done.

Found question about length of turnout time not having sufficient choice.

Says 12+ hours and then overnight.
Some of mine are out 24/7 is that 12+ or overnight? I know some people who only turn out overnight in summer and keep horses in during day, that could be 12+ but not 24.
