I have heard lots of good things about back on track products, and have tried a HKM Mr Feelwarm rug which definitely seems warmer than a normal rug of its type. But do they actually do anything? Are they all the same? Are some better than others?

I have seen a decent price on some Rambo Ionic boots but am wondering whether I would be better spending more and getting the back on track ones instead........

Any advice/suggestions? Should I just save my money?

I've been using Back On Track rugs for the last 6-7 years, particularly on my 22yo arthric boy, and I do believe they help and bought them for all my horses eventually.

They oldie is noticably stiffer when he hasnt worn it and will be cold backed to mount. He wears his as an under rug through winter and he remains loose in his back and ready to work.

My mare has only recently started wearing one 24/7 and we are seeing the same with her. She is loner and looser and happier to work in a contact and forward from the start of the session.

I once tried wrapping myself in a rug when I had a sore back to see how it felt and it wasnt just that it felt warm - my horses never sweat in the rugs - it was tingly and soothing. I did this for a week until it felt better.

Never used the leg wraps but if I needed that sort of product I would buy BOT without hesitation.

I recently bought a Weatherbeeta Therapy-Tec fleece as an alternative to my aging BOT and it ripped badly within 3 weeks, and Weatherbeeta dont cover them in their 3 years warranty. Although the ceramic area seems to do the job the fleece material itself is very thin and, imo, not fit for purpose, especially on a £90 rug. My BOT rugs are years old and although a bit tatty have been used almost non stop on 2 horses for several years and are still in one piece. The gap in quality is huge.

that's interesting. I have a BOT mesh rug that my thug wears quite a lot. it has coped well with her, and was 2nd hand when I bought it so I reckon she'd have shredded one of the other kinds! i bought the TB his own one recently, also 2nd hand but pretty much immaculate.

Yes I use hock boots (or my horse does :)) and I do think they help. She has arthritis and seems a lot freer in the mornings as a result. I didn't use them the first two ish weeks when they came in over night and when I did remember to bring them to the yard I noticed a difference (I think).

I've just bought the Weatherbeeta Therapy Tec fleece for my newly diagnosed PSSM1 boy and I'm impressed - I don't find the fleece thin at all and it fits my chunk well. No idea if it works but certainly makes me feel better. I've just ordered the quarter sheet as well. I was more worried about the fit of the BOT rugs so went weatherbeeta.

I'm really disapointed in Weatherbeeta, to be honest. My BOT rugs are a mix of second hand and new and have been on 3-4 different horses and other than a strap needing replaced and one shoulder dart needing restitched they have put up with near constant use, both the fleece and the mesh rugs. They also wash really well. My oldest one is now over 6 years old and was bought second hand and is still being used this winter. I contacted Weatherbeeta today and they have dismissed me completely. I have other Weatherbeeta fleeces and they are thicker, the Therapytec one is definitley a very thin, cheap fleece. Will probably repair it as best I can and sell it to put towards a new BOT.

My friend bought the Therapy Tec the same time as me and hers has ripped in the same place.

Is this the BOT ones?

I have BoT for the horses but also a BoT for my back - and its really good. The heat doesn't make you feel sweaty just a very relaxing warmth. It was a lifesaver in the office when I hurt my lower back.

Unfortunately their rugs aren't a great fit on the horse I use the pad and exercise sheet on. I've found them a bit tight around the neck. I was looking at the weatherbeeta, but the comments above are putting me off a bit because they aren't cheap.

Interesting replies about the Weatherbeeta, I have some of there turnouts that fit mine really well so thought about getting one of the rugs but was putting it off as i really didn't want a fleece. I think if I do go for one then I will look at the Catago ones instead as mine is big round the shoulders and neck and from what I've heard the BOT will not be the best fit.
