Questions to ask potential new sharer

Try and establish how much experience they have, ask if they've ever shared a horse before, how much would they be willing to contribute to upkeep, how many days/which days would they be coming to the yard. Also maybe ask what kind of things they would like to do with your horse so you can make sure they've not got the totally wrong idea about what your horse can do.
Hope it goes well!

I'd ask just general questions about what they have done and what they'd like to do with yours. Discuss days, what happens if they are ill/ on hols etc. and can't make it and check they are happy to pay monthly in advance by direct debit.

Much more important is to watch them. Leave him out in the field and make them go and catch him, then hand them grooming kit and tack. If they look at a bridle with horror or can't make him pick his feet up - I wouldn't even let them sit on him, politely suggest they have some horse management lessons and come back to you in a month or so (you'll never hear from them again)

I've had loads of sharers (at one point I had two horses with two sharers each! - long story!) the best ones by far have had horses before - even if it was 10 + years ago as a kid, they have some idea of the commitment involved. The ones that couldn't tack up I did start out trying to help/ show but often they ended up just taking the piss and expecting me to catch/ tack up and tidy up after them for £6.50 a ride !!!
