I'm trying out a new horse next week and I have quite a few questions ready to ask but I was wondering what everyone else would suggest asking? He's and ex steeplechaser btw

What is he fed.......sounds basic but i know a few people who didnt ask that question and it turned out very badly.....dont change it until he is settled.

why are they selling him, how long have they had him, how much work does he get, if he's done any competitions (then google to check), any vices, does he load ok, any injuries / illnesses.
Make sure you watch them pick out the feet, and tack up.
And definitely get him vetted! It amazes me that people are willing to spend lots of money on a horse and not have them fully vetted, also make sure you use a vet of your own choosing that they do not use.
