Following on from a fortnight a go winning the 1.15 class my husband had high expectations when he came a long with me yesterday. He should know better really but no money won yesterday - cut to the chase. BOOO Hisss.

We have an issue in that I find it hard to get her focus on the first jump. That wasn't a huge issue today but she has a way of jumping that takes me a couple of strides to get my bearing, which meant I nearly sailed past fence two, quick re reoute and she was a poppet to jump it.:o Then we got ourselves together but seemed to be getting in deep to them all, still an eventer at heart and think getting in deep and lifting through the shoulder feels weird and going on a long one much easier:o. So after the next couple of jumps I let her move forward to fence 6 and take a flyer ( more my comfort zone) which she left a front leg hanging and we had that. Totally my fault got her back for the last two which she jumped really nicely.

So lesson learned, no such thing as too deep and trust her, wait with shoulders back and leave the canter alone just keep leg on and she has more than enough scope to jump them.

I should be off to Woodbrigde show tomorrow, as I used yesterday as a little warmup (she hasn't jumped since last show a fortnight ago) fingers crossed the weather holds out. :) Oh and I didn't do the 1.15 yesterday which was the plan, because I was meant going out to dinner with friends and the 1.10 didn't start till 5.30 . I'm not high maintence but i need a wash after a show;)

Thanks for reading.

Thank you yes it was commented on that it was up to height, but not to brag but height isn't our issue. I need more competition miles on my clock, as with our trainer I am jumping 1.30 courses but I seem to overide her at comps but I'm learning to just trust and wait. My trainer always says it is better that my overide button is kick and ride for your life, rather than freeze but if we are going to go out and compete in a couple of 1.30's this year I need to not freak out :o. I'm work in progress:D

I think watching the video you can see you do have a little bit of a habit of overriding, but you could clearly see you were trying to work on that too. All good, good luck tomorrow hope the weather is ok. Lovely mare! Just make sure your other half isn't the jinx if you did well the week before without him ;):)

She is a super mare, in fact we call her Super Don Don. Her stable name is Donna, which is a little cheesy as she is by Donnerhall:o

Our trianer says we egg each other on, as I see the stride and ride for it instead of seeing the stride and waiting, then Donna sees the stride/ jump and revs up too :eek:We'll get there and she is so different to the other horses I compete and have competed. All part of the process ;)

What a lovely horse!
If you could increase your tempo by about 30%,I'll bet you will have a totally different feeling, and it will be so much easier to see a stride!

Thanks Louisem, I was wondering if I was holding back too much. she is 17.2hh so arenas and especially indoors fell very small. I am off to our first outdoor show tomorrow so I'll work on it then:D I'll be reporting back and I look forward to the 26th where you can see for yourself ;)
