Right my question is would you stable bandage my boy at night when it is this cold?
The reasons I am contemplating this (have not had to do this for any horse of mine before) is becase his hind legs are filling quite considerably over night and he is showing stifness in the mornings.
He is nearly 24 and is still in work and is on cortaflex.
Also his legs have showed some filling in previous years, but not to this exstent and not alongside any stiffnes.

Thankyou in advance :)

My Boys legs fill when he is in over night, I used to swear by Thermatex wraps, they kept all the swelling down when he was in. However as you say he is stiff with the swelling I would be more inclined to say, is there any way he could live out (with lots of rugs!) as that would keep him moving.

my boy is full TB and is living out fulltime now and he is happy as ever with no swelling. I'd recommend it to anyone. He is a 15yo very poor doer but looking fab this year.

My mare's hind legs used to do this when I first got her 2 years ago quite badly. I put on bandages with pads and it seemed to solve the problem. I was told by an experienced friend that it was just a build up of fluid in the legs due to her standing still whilst she was in.

We don't suffer as much with the problem as much now but I still bandage sometimes if the weather is really cold, or if she is in alot.
Hope that helps.

Thankyou for your replies.
Unfortunatley living out isnt an option at the current yard, however would prefer to stay as we have an indoor school, so can keep him excercised.
Although I know he would be fine living out, and probably very happy!, as he is a welsh cob :)

Yes I would bandage, I think they would give more support than wraps. I love the eskadron under bandage wraps the biggest ones, they mould to the leg really nicely and are not bulky. I am currently using thermatex wraps though but my horses legs don't fill, they are just to keep him warm, he is 31

i always used to bandaged (not wrap) my old boy. He's 31 now. I dont anymore, his legs still fill but soon wear off on turnout. Its just bad circulation due to his age. He isnt stiff though. I stopped doing because he was more prone to mud fever with the bandages on - i hate washing legs down causes more problems than its worth and cant bandage on wet muddy legs - nightmare!
