So ventured down to do the BSJA intro show today and having dithered over what classes to do (and given a kick up the bum by Olivio!), decided on the 80cm and 90cm classes. 70cm would have been too wee for my horse, so think I made the right choice.

Was SUPER busy, so had a fair wait and placed myself near the end of the Senior 80cm Open class. Positive mental attitude reckoned this meant less hanging around and re-warming up for the jump off you see?!
wink.gif
There were 33 horses in the class and we were about 5 from the end. Managed a nice clear, although a little sticky and nervous to start (properly clattered no.2- had green paint on her hoof!!
blush.gif
- but it stayed up), got better through the course (managed to chip in 2 strides through the 1 stride double but left both parts up!)

Come out and was wandering around when a couple of riders later, someone came across a shoe in the main arena. Looked down to realise it was mine!!!
blush.gif
Front left and judging from location it was recovered, must have been after the fence 2 clatter. No hoof missing and she didn't feel any different round the other 9 fences on course, so quick straw poll of competitors said do jump off as surface so good she shouldn't miss the shoe.

Popped a couple warm up fences before JO and she did indeed seem happy without it, we were last in to JO and managed clear to come 3rd.

Got a rosette but no prize money as on class ticket, boo!

Again, a big class for the 90cm National Amateur championship qualifier class, must have been at least 40. Plonked ourselves near the end again and had an hour or so to chill out at the trailer inbetween. Went back in and did a really nice clear round, really pleased with how it felt.

Only 12 through to JO and we were last to go again! (only one on a ticket) Had a horrendous warm up, two horrid jumps at the spread and then a couple run outs as we'd both lost confidence. Then discovered it was actually sitting at 1.10m, so lovely person on ground (didn't know them at all) put it down to 1m for me and boosted our confidence again. No one I met today lived up to the "cliquey BSJA" stereotype and those folk in the warm up were very kind to me.

The lovely Olivio was also there to kick my butt and tell me to think forwards and quit pulling with my hands- total panic riding, all because of the two bad jumps at the start of the warm up.
frown.gif
Had a couple nice jumps and then went in for my JO. Tried thinking forwards and first 3 fences were fine, 4th was ok, but panic set in coming up to the 2 stride double and I bloody hooked coming into it when I should have left well alone!
mad.gif

However, lovley lovely pony who I truly do not deserve, managed to get 3 strides in the middle of it and still leave the 1m spread on the way out standing, goodness knows how, I owe her a million for being so agile/scopey/clever. Remembered to turn and made a better job over the last to stay clear and finish 6th. Commentator said "lovely round" to which I shouted "it's wasn't!" and when she commented on how she couldn't believe we left part B of the double up I just pointed at my horse and gave her big pats! She agreed that it was the clever pony to thank!

So came out with a double clear but was absolutely kicking myself.
frown.gif
Feel so bad I did that to her, there was no need.
frown.gif
We have a lesson with Caroline Powell in a couple weeks time and I will be asking her to kick my behind about my hooking antics and see what she can suggest. I just blind panicked and did everything I know I shouldn't do and nothing I know I should have done.
frown.gif

Pony seems happy munching on her haynet this evening so hopefully means she's forgiven me. Was lovely to meet Quadro (who did well today!
smile.gif
) and also huge thanks to Olivio for the morale support, so so appreciated.
smile.gif
Will also start SJ-ing in over reach boots me thinks!

No pics yet, but will try post some tomorrow.

(just looked at this in preview and turns out it wasn't quite as quick as planned when I started typing...!

Thank you- isn't it ridiculous that I came out of a double clear round almost in tears?! I just feel so guilty for getting it so wrong and even more guilty that she did so well to get us out of it. I'm sure she'll have forgotten by now, but I will do my best to do her proud next time. Total onset of nerves, hopefully won't be so bad next time?!

Well done!
You and H did good! Don't stress too much, you know that you two can do it now so hopefully next time you'll be a bit calmer. You can't have been to make you managed to get DC and didn't jump the wrong jump/ get lost
wink.gif

So jealous about your lesson with Caroline Powell!

Come on Figjam!! it was your 1st BSJA and it sounds to me like you did super...sometimes you have to rely on ur horse to get you out of trouble...!
smile.gif

Brilliant results and well done you! you should be dead pleased with what you acheived!

Well done! And how refreshing to find a rider that blames themselves and not the horse!!!! A little puzzled though did they actually award you sixth because if you are on a ticket then you cant be placed?!

EveningStar- thanks. Hopefully I will manage to stay calmer next time now that I know we can do it, there's no need to flap! Hopefully next time the DC will be more stylish although not so entertaining for the spectators?!
wink.gif
I am very excited about my lesson with Caroline, I've heard she's a great teacher.
smile.gif

tricksibell- thanks also. She is a total star, but I definitely need to put some major credit back in the "generosity pot" for her helping me out so much through that double!
blush.gif
Away to hunt down your post to find out how you got on!
smile.gif

saskia- cheers! There are indeed pictures, but poor Mr FigJam had to go straight from show to dinner, so hasn't had time to get them uploaded (I've not even seen previews yet, no idea whether we look good or not!), will post them later on in the week for everyone's entertainment/CC! Sadly for you guys (but luckily for me!) I have no photographic or video evidence of H's catlike genius, but have a few photos from both classes.
smile.gif

Jen- Ta! We were at SNEC, doing the Intro show, don't think we're ready for the proper ones!!! I think I'll stick to the Intro shows where I can do the 80cm and 90cm classes for now.
smile.gif
Do you have a report up from the weekend? Will go have a look...!
smile.gif

NJ- thanks. Was sorry not to see you and Alfie there though.
frown.gif
Next outing will be back down to SNEC on 21st for unaff stressage. Doing P18 and my sharer is doing P14, great for me as H has to suffer two tests but I only have to learn/suffer one!
tongue.gif

Viewfromahill- if something goes wrong SJing, it's 99% my fault! My wee horse is a total genuine superstar when it comes to SJ and definitely knows better than me! (so why couldn't I remember that in the ring?!
mad.gif
) This is why I was so upset with myself, becasue I felt I let her down.
frown.gif

The organisers were being kind and giving us ticket-riders rosettes and laps of honour, but no prize money. The registered riders futher down the line had the prize money and qualifications passed on to them and were invited in to get them presented also.

well done - you should be over the moon with all those clears....my ponio will never ever jump clear - if we've made it round the course with out knocking any down he'll plough the last on purpose!! i think he taps every single jump we go over!
don't worry about beating yourself up though, it will get easier and less stressful the more you do it!!

at least you got a rosette - rowallan wouldn't give you one whatsoever if your a day ticketer!

FigJam - no report, wasn't really worth it! Had two down in the jump off, totally my stupid numpty fault grrr. Got a bit of an arse kicking when I came out... It was suggested by boss man that he could almost do with bigger fences to back him off a bit, but we shall see. Might post link to pics when they go up on Wednesday if they're any good but rather doubtful. Looking forward to seeing Mr FigJam's pics!

was Mr FigJam the 'official' photographer at Snec? If so, he may have some photos of my pinky pony!!

don't suppose anyone knows who the photographer was at snec on the 31st?

bogpony- ha ha, I can just imagine him thinking about it on the way to the last "right, really much try harder to boot this one!"
tongue.gif
My problem is my horse is so consciencious and clever that she masks far more rider errors than other horses would and I really have to be aware of what I've done wrong and try to fix them even though I "get away with it"! Rowallan sound pretty mean not to give you a frilly
frown.gif
, I think it was nice of SNEC to include us in the "actual, on the day" placings for rosettes, even though the "technical, according to BSJA" ones will ignore us!

Mr FigJam was indeed there in an official capacity, he will try get photos up asap, but not sure when exactly that will be. Will give you a wee shout when he does get them up, hopefully tonight or tomorrow. He wasn't there on the 31st, not sure who was. Think he's there again on 14th, will you be there?

Jen- from having seen what you posted on tricksibell's post, it doesn't sound like you had the largest amount of time to prepare, so I wouldn't be too upset with that! Look forward to hearing if the bigger fences work better for you!
wink.gif

He's jumped round when the cafe bits been in full swing and that didn't bother him. But who knows?! Three is no logic to that horse!

Ginger one not going (never even been in an indoor arena!), but I shall endeavour to get her out and about shortly. Having a confidence wobbler with her at the moment.

FigJam preparation is not necessary for BSJA don't you know? Warming up is soooo last season... Wouldn't be the first time we've been that late, at least we made the class I wanted to jump - that's how we ended up stepping up to starting at NC and doing our first 1.15m - just didn't get there on time! What's worse is that we're literally 15mins from Rowallan so really no excuse. It's gotten to the stage that when someone asks what class I'm jumping I just say 'whatever's on when we arrive' lol!

well done!
grin.gif
sounds a hell of a lot better than my first bsja (i got an elimination in my first class, and then 20 faults in my second class [4 down and a refusal]
blush.gif
lol!)

dont worry about the problems, they will sort themselves out, your pony sounds very honest and lovely
grin.gif
i want her! lol.

well done again
smile.gif
xx

JenB- maybe that's what I need to do next time- just go in and hope for the best?!
wink.gif

little_flea, thank you.
smile.gif
I'm very proud of wee Hopalong.
smile.gif

MandyMoo- oh dear, I'm amazed you went back in for more punishment after the 1st round!
wink.gif
Although there were a lot of E's yesterday for two refusals. I think because it was an Intro show, they were being very kind and letting folk pop a jump on their way out of the main ring. My wee pony is indeed a superstar and will be totally irreplaceable! She'd probably want you riding at the next BSJA!

haha, i was rather embarassed, but its all part of the experience
laugh.gif
haha. oh thats not just Intro shows...at every bsja, if you get eliminated you are always allowed to jump one fence before you leave
smile.gif
to let you leave on a good note i suppose.. haha she doesnt want me on her
wink.gif
haha you'll be fine next time. good luck!
laugh.gif
xx

KW33- she truly is! She absolutely gives it 100% and will jump her socks off, it gives me so much confidence and I wish she wasn't 17, wish I could clone her and make her 8 years old all over again, but with the same attitude she has now!
wink.gif

MM- didn't realise it was a standard BSJA rule, thought they were just being nice as the smaller classes were likely to have more novicey horses/riders. Will need to have a couple lessons to kick my butt and then find another one to have a go at.

Mr FigJam promises me he will be working on photos tonight.
smile.gif

i think that Figjam is telling fibs!!! the rider was super!!! and rode really well and to get placed in what was a really big class at your 1st BSJA show was fantastic!!!! (was lovely to meet you and your lovely pony as well
smile.gif
)!!!!! looking forward to seeing the pics from mr F!!! i bet you were knackered at the end of the day though!!!

I think Quadro is being too kind!
blush.gif
Thank you, but you were sensible and left sharp so missed the muppetry in the 90cm class JO!
wink.gif
It was lovely to meet you and your lovely horses too, hope you got home in time for work. Will hopefully see you out and about over the winter at some point. I didn't leave until 3.45pm and was straight from yard to house and back out for dinner, no stopping! It's caught up with me today, shattered!

Nic- cheers! I should- do you think she'd suit a cape as well?!
