i have been to see a horse today
hes 17h 6rold belgium warmblood...hes nice and short coupled and has quite thick set legs but a nice frame and looks to have good conformation in my eyes.

Basically he has done BSJA up to newcomers and out of about 10/11 outings hes been placed about 8 times....and apparently hes very good. Been professionally schooled by a Jo someone..dun..bun.something like that!!!

im looking at him to event and really only went as hes only in essex and thought i might as well...i really want to know you opinions on warmbloods as eventers etc....hes by bon ami/kannan and has voltaire lines.

Really nice looking horse she rode him nicely and he never touched a pole..i got on she actually said i got him up together better but think its as i am a bit taller...and jumped him happily too-i just needed to remeber to push his big canter enough-but then i wasnt wearing spurs like her.

so i then took him and had a canter out and had brakes fine in a copper roller snaffle and let him out a little but not too much

hence another question do warmbloods generally make the time ????????

apparently he has been out and done UK chasers once-not sure about that and although he was a bit looky he apparently did what he was told.

I really like him but i feel not being able to take him xc is a big risk as i cant afford to have him and then he hates it/isnt bold enough.

I really need you honest opinions...

do you mind us asking how much he is ?? xx

If she really wants to sell him then we will have to do that x

boss i have but she was like no in case someting happens....but then she could ride him if she prefered and im not silly and going to gallop him around over big jumps....just potter over something solid!!

what about the fact he is a warmblood-what are you opinions on that/???

So long as he isnt a chunky wb I'd say it was fine, we've had pure wbs in the past and found them more than suitable.
How did his jump feel?

Def ask again and accept that she could ride him. If not, go back and try him again but build some corners and arrowheads out of sjs to try

But she doesnt know you arent going to be silly! I had this with mine, what happens if you take it and it injures itself! you walk away she is left with injured horse.

He looks nice though, but wouldnt go for a warmblood to event personally. (says her who has a 3/4 one!!)

yeh im going to have to tell her straight its too big of a risk-if she then let me i think i would take someone i have had lessons with who brings on event horses with me
i mean i just want to make sure that hes happy to do it otherwise we will both be unhappy!!

the thing that worries me also is the fact warmbloods are not as fast

A big horse like him will cover the ground easily.
Moon has barely any tb in her but she cant half motor, it's all about engine size!!

cool...im just a major worrier as iv always thought people go off warmbloods fore eventing....she leives he wd find PN easy..and i think this dressage and sj would be fine-altho hes not been out and really done any dressage

so that begs the question, judging on todays makret how much do you think hes worth??

I agree that I think if she is selling him with the potential to event she is going to have to accept that people will want to see him pop a ditch and trot through water. Particularly in this market where lots of horses are available and not selling. I personally would be wary of her saying no chance.

Anyone have an idea on value?? the i wil say how much shes asking for

7.5k, based on the fact he's jumping consistantly at newcomers

cool..tyhanks wot i thought hes over budget at 9k
blush.gif
but i said we dont want to pay that before we got there and she said she would probably drop to 8.5k..which again for me is too high....maybe if he had been going good guns round xc i wouldnt mind as much....hes not been taken out dressage either!!

do any of you know anything about either Kannan or Bon Ami?

I would not pay more than 7.5k as tbh, for a 6yr old (rising 7 presumably)pure sjer, newcomers is not that big

thanks i really appreciate your honesty as that is what i thought- i went to see him as he wasnt far and i know horses are being asked ridicuous prices for and are not selling so thought it was worth going to see!!

It's worth laying an offer on the table and leaving her to think about it. He's a smart horse and looks to have a great canter, there's just too many ifs and buts for 9k

yep thanks, i need someone to tell me these things-as i said if the people 2moro buy him then fine...il be a bit disapointed but i cant take a gamble like that im writing these things down so that i can say that when i ring.

Bon Ami and Kannan are both international show-jumpers. I saw Bon Ami a few times and never liked him personally. But at his age he'll have finished growing so if he looks ok to you now then that's what you should go on. By his breeding he should really be out winning young horse champs, but he isn't, probably not his fault. I wouldn't be put off by her cautious attitude, as HJ says, the owner doesn't know you. When we were buying an eventer in Belgium (when we lived there) everything we tried was a show-jumper, and not one private owner would entertain the idea of their horse jumping a solid fence before it was sold. Only a dealer was ok with it, having made it very clear we'd have to pay the full asking price if the horse was hurt.

Having looked at a lot of horse recently he may not be overpriced it depends on his quality and potential as well as what he has done and only you can judge that. Then again at the end of the day an offer of 8k and a few days to think about it may well be productive.

My mare that is currently doing 2* and hopefully beyond that soon is a Dutch Warmblood. Time isn't a major issue for her and she is bold. I have come accross the odd warmblood that can be chicken but generally I like the warmbloods for eventing and if he SJs well then you are halfway there.

tigers eye i do obviously understand this-but i really wouldnt mind if they were 2ft fences-or just going through some water....shes advertsied him as potential event yet hes dont no dressage or xc....so i feel like she should be willing to show him in that way-like my mare i didnt show her xc to her new owners-but her BE record showed she was good xc.

she did say shes not very brave although she works as a stuntwoman so:s and shes not been able to take him out that much
