I know a suprising amount of people who scream they are anti as they are animal lovers, but know no facts behind the ban or the petition for its revoke.

This interests me, please simply vote to the statement which describes you best, to satisfy my curiosity! thank you!

One for the hunting forum i think

the simple fact is that hardly anybody goes on the hunting forum who isn't part of the passionate debate that goes round and round in circles there every day - hardly representative of the forum population.

I know the hunting forum peeps scare me, whichever side they are on!

It’s true I don’t ever venture into the hunting forum. I’m leaning towards pro hunting, even though I have never actually hunted myself (more because I have never really had the chance).

Sorry Vicky i'm not arguing BUT the same can be said for Pros - to be fair it doesn't matter if you're a farmer, hunter, follower or not, you can still have an opinion and that opinion is still valid.

What really irritates me are those who shout the loudest they are Pro but have never been to real hunt, don't own a farm or have any experience - but that's a bit of a contradiction to what I just said so i'll shut-up now.

My main point is really, if you believe in it then it doesn't matter what you've got to back it up with, that's your opinion and that's fair enough

Having been a strong proponent of hunting all my life - I find myself leaning the other way now. To the point where I am seriously considering giving up.

Good, thats why i did it in hear as i want EVERYONES view not just the scarey banner holders :-)

Even in here it will still be bias as this is the forum of a pro hunting magazine. I would guess that most posters read the magazine and I can't see many anti's buying a pro publication.
In this section you'll get a representitive view from a bias sample (if you follow!!)

Hunting doesn't appeal to me at all, definitely not something I would ever do. Its more from the horsey side though, I can't see it being anything but dangerous and scary to have loads of people heading for a fence at a similar time, crossing wire, rabbit holes etc. I also hate the fact that I wouldn't be able to pull up if I wanted. BUT I think I might feel differently if I had a better behaved horse!! Chex would get in such a tizz I would spend the whole time pleading with him to slow down and keep away from others (I've done common rides which I think are similar but without hounds or jumps and fun is not how I'd describe it!).

May I ask why? - just out of interest.

Think I'm turning in to a Budhist - just don't want to kill anything......

I'll give you an example

I keep poultry and am 'hunt literate' although I've never hunted (too bl**dy scared of jumping tbh and my horses have always been nutters in company)

On a poultry forum there are lots who are 'anti' and their classic line is that you don't need to cull foxes - they kill poultry because the poultry keeper hasn't got their birds properly secured.

OK - so then you ask them how you 'properly secure' a field full of ewes and lambs and they don't have an answer.

So no I haven't hunted but I respect the fact that there is a closed season and that the fox is not left wounded but either dead or alive.

I have a shoot round me - and tbh - the prowess or otherwise of some of the guns makes me firmly believe that there are far more foxes left wounded but not dead using shooting as a method.

So a non-hunt participants view from someone who keeps poultry and sheep as well as horses.

I also at the time questioned whether the ban was for the benefit of the fox or for the benefit of keeping Mr. Blairs more left wing MPs happy - but then I'm a bit of a political animal..... ;-)

I buy H&H and tbh I don't read the hunting reports but I do look at some of the piccys of the fences they are jumping and go OMG and consider most of the riders either mad or hugely brave or a combination of both !!!

Pro.
Hunting foxes is banned, isn't it?
I've ridden to hounds since I was 8 years old, with a few gaps in between, if I could find a mounted pack out here then I'd ride again tomorrow.

See now pasha i respect that, and i respect your point of view, what bugs me however is comments like "just go mock hunting instead" this makes me laugh as its got nothing to do with that!

I will hopefully follow a drag hunt one day if little legs is goign sane enough, i have seen a few hunts and followed on foot when i was very small in wales and sadly havent done for a long time as im always caught up with other things.

I know what you mean about shouting the loudest, the people that do are often irrational and dont have proper arguements to back up their statements so they believe if they shout loudest no one will question them!!!!

I myself am a "leaning towards pro" type, i wouldnt say im a radical pro as i dont actively campaign, and i have not hunted myself. If i had or was a farmer maybe i would be be more passionate for the cause

I would love to go hunting more, but I simply cannot afford it! I have been on the marches etc, hunted in the Pony Club, and when I worked for landowners. Now I actually have to pay the full rate for a days hunting, I can't do it. If it was say £20 - £40 I would go at least once a month.

Used to be Pro. First hunted at 6 years old, spent 3 seasons with terrier men so do know exactly what goes on at hunts. Probably a lot more than most of the average field.

Now I am definitely anti.

*sticks head over parapet*

In that case, I shouldn't really be here...I never buy the mag precisely cos I don't agree with the pro-hunting stance...but I read my friend's once she's finished with it as I like to keep up to date with horsey news, changes in comp rules, etc. Oh dear - does that make me a hypocrite...is that worse than being an anti??

*sneaks off to start cooking a weirdy vegan dinner involving lentils*

Why's that? If you don't mind me asking.

Killing in the name of sport no longer sits well with me. A personal decision. Have no issue with anyone who does hunt as I believe we should all make our own decisions on subjects like this and not be dictated to by hard liners or legislation.
