I am not the biggest fan of lunging, but what I use depends on which horse I am lunging, By the time you have put all the gubbins on to lunge you might as well tack up and ride!!!!
Votedfor 1 rein, would love to be able to do it with 2 though, as think it possibly gives a better workout, but I know i'd get them tangled up and trip over them.
Depends on the pony/horse im doing it with. If it is just for exercise with a good horse just 1 line and a head collar. If it is a naughty/lively horse or im adding jumps cavesson and if the horse is already well schooled 2. It is hard to scholl a horse from scratch with 2, but is they are there the the 2 reins helps them remember it!
Always two, its really bad for their backs and neck to have just one on and to get the horse to truly work forwards the second rein is so helpful. Practice makes perfect.
I've never seena horse lunged with 2 reins, can someone explain how this works? I've led a sheltered life, and actually don't lunge very often at all, as Flash just chews the lunge whip
I normally don't lunge because Jim is just impossible to hold despite much better people than me trying.
I'll be breaking Little Un soon though & have already done a little bit of long reining & lunging with him. All the lunging was done on two lines because as long as the horse isn't a nutter (in which case I'd be scared of getting tangled up) I feel it gives much more control & precision.
