when i get my own place i absolutely have my heart set on getting a boxer, absolutely adore them.

couple of queries, how much do they cast, and how much do they really drool?
my mums a complete dramatic so i dont know wither to believe her when she says how much they slebber.

ive known a couple and neither of them drooled even half as much as my mum said..

My friend's boxer slobbers quite a bit but boy does he moult! His hair literally comes out in chunks every time you even stroke his back. He is a lovely, friendly boy but very strong and chunky.

Ours was very high energy and tbh a bit mental! She didn't calm down until around 8yrs, but that was more due to getting arthritis in her hips from years of 'bouncing around', so forced her to be less active!

However she was also hugely affectionate and great with kids. She wasn't a huge 'slobberer' and think she cost around £500, but that was a good few years ago.

thats what i love about them, how insane they are haha! and this sounds really sad but i want to go out running, dont like jogging with other peope or on my own, and i think a boxer would be my perfect partner!

thanks for your responses guys :)

yes, best dogs ever. I'm on to numbers 5 and 6 now (so you can tell I'm not at all biased!). None of mine have been great slobber dogs, just a little when eating or drinking. None really shed all that much either. Make sure you do your homework on the breeder you choose (as with all types) some breeders are much better than others. Or you could consider re-homing? there are breed specific charities. They are high energy and mostly slightly loopy!

Our little lady is just coming up to 14 yrs old! She has always been quite small for a boxer so never drooled at all really (it often seems to be some of the big boys that drool more!!).
She has had the best personality of any dog we have ever had and I don't think we would have any other breed from now on.
She has always had so much energy and just wants to play although she is now starting to slow down and prefers to spend most of her time in front of the fire, although at her age I think she has earned it!
If you have the space and time for an energetic fun dog I would definately say go for it.
She cost us £350 from a very well respected breeder but that was nearly 14 years ago, they will cost you quite a bit more now (£500 - £900).

My boxer is amazing, adorable attenetion loves being with people, bounces all day even tho he is stiff behind. But hes a small slight boxer and only drools when were eating something he really wants but cant have, leaving a small puddle on the floor.

we had boxers growing up, a local breeder always felt sorry for us kids and gave us her 'rejects'

we had George, and then we had Georgina and then we had George, can you see a pattern lol, fab dogs, they were great with us kids bouncing all over them but then they bounced all over us kids, they were high energy, and loved their food, would quite happily steal, we spent one xmas at the vets with Georgina who stole all the xmas prezzies from under the tree even managing to open tins of quality streets, I can just imagine the vet being under some pressure looking down and seeing aprox 15 pairs of pleading eyes 'save our dog mister' looking at him, he did :-)

the only time I ever remember drool is when food was involved, they would have long drips of slobber hanging from their chops right down to the floor, we'd sit and watch and wait for it to drop, bad news if they shook their heads instead *everyone duck* haha

a boxer is on my list of dogs to get when I win the lottery :)

A lady at the yard has one who is about 3 now. He's lovely. He doesn't drool as he was bred to have what is know as a 'dry mouth' so I've been told. I think she paid £800 for him. Stunning friendly dog though!

They are NUTS! Friend of mine had three. Not really slobbery- just crazy clowns. Health issues were a problem tho- eldest female got to ten before succumbing to heart issues. Poor boy dog only made 4 before cancer took him.

As an owner of an equally if not more bonkers breed (Irish setter) I would say be careful what you wish for!!

I love my lad's enthusiasm for life, and the fact he's up for anything, but there are times when that constant energy and behaviour get's a tad wearing I have to say.

I'm sure you have considered that, but just a thought is all.

I don't know a huge amount about boxers and sadly my experience of them has been quite negative.

One owned by a neighbour had to be re-homed as was not good with other dogs, and was very difficult behaviour wise if didn't have loads of exercise.Same owners previous boxer had to be put down due to breed associated health problems.

Another one down the road has gone for me twice now (went for the face on one occasion:eek:),and has gone for my setter when on lead (plays with him fine off lead).I mention it as it appears to be related to horses so might be relevant.
She goes beserk if she sees me out riding, and both times has gone for me has been when I've been with the horses so maybe smell of them?? Not sure about going for my setter, unless that also is because he is with me??

That all may just be her of course and nothing to do with the breed, but I know some types are better with horses and livestock than others so might be worth researching what boxers are like in this respect if haven't already.

Good luck if decide and manage to get one,and perhaps a sponge on each side of the mouth for the slobber:p
