This has probably been asked before but as yet to find the answer so...

what is the maximum length of whip allowed in dressage comps?

I've just looked through the rule book on the BD website and there's no mention of an actual length - well there might be and I've just missed it lol

Huge thanks for anyone that has the answer!

I thought it the wording was now something about not bashing other competitors with it in the warm up!:biggrin3:

Mine is extremely long and I've never been pulled up on it :)

BD says:

53. Whips
It is permitted to carry a whip in all National Classes except Area Festivals, all
Championship Classes or at the request of the Selectors. A whip may not be carried by a
competitor riding any FEI Pony, Junior or Young Rider test. Whips are permitted in all 4
year old classes, including Championships. A whip may always be carried by ladies riding
side saddle, but at no time may more than one whip be carried during a test or when
warming up unless specified as an agreed compensating aid for a para rider. Whips are
permitted in all Para classes.
A whip must not be used in a way or be of a length that disturbs other riders and may not
be picked up if dropped during a test.
When saluting, Competitors must take the reins and whip, if carried, in one hand. The
free hand should be lowered to the rider’s side and the rider should nod the head.
Excessive use of the whip at any time while at an Affiliated competition is forbidden, and
it should never be used or carried in a manner which affects other horses.

BE says:

7.6 Whips. no whip of any kind may be carried whilst competing in the dressage
test. one whip only, no longer than 120cm including lash, may be carried
when riding on the flat at any other time. one whip only, no longer than 75cm
and not weighted, may be carried when jumping any obstacle.

A "normal" length schooling whip will be fine. Mine all vary very slightly in length - never had a problem!
