Quick question about hoods

Can you get them stand alone? So they don't have to be attached to a rug but secured between the legs or something?

I've seen snuggy ones but would these get ripped easily out in the field? Alternatively, can anyone suggest a good but cheap hood & rug combo or all in one, size 6' 3" or have one they want to get rid of?

If you mean the lycra, non-waterproof hoods which cover from ears to girth area, they often come with an elasticated girth, so don't rely on a rug to keep them on.
I've got a snuggy hood sweet itch one, and it is made from quite strong material, but nothing will stand up to a determined rug ripper.
If you mean the waterproof ones, I've never seen one that didn't need to be fixed to the rug.

Yeah, I mean one a can turn him out with coz his mane was just gross tonight so think a hood might be good. Those snuggy ones look great for mane training but not so much for just being turned out in. Hmmmm, I may have to invest in a new rug. Could do with a table rug too.... Dammit, anyone having a clearout??
 
Hi Peeps - Having a Friesian with a very long mane I am a dab hand with hoods. I like the Shires which is quite reasonably priced. It fits with a long zip up the neck, thus avoiding the sock over the head approach. It pulls over the shoulder elimanating gaps between hood and rug and has a surcingle which clips under the tummy. I would buy a larger size than you think you may need then it won't be too tight on your horses neck. They don't rip easily either. Hope that's some help

Snuggy Hoods are the best ones - they fit really well and have a large area around the eye, so matter how much my horse rubs, he can still see!! you can sew the rips up easily if he does rip it as its like a thick lycra type material
