Patches is having her freezemark re-done this evening at 17.45.

I clipped her last Saturday but I'm concerned that she may have grown a few millimetres of coat between then and now. If you were me, would you re-clip her before the lady arrives or do you think an 8 day old clip would be fine for marking purposes?

My worry is that Patches is ok when I clip her, but not sure how she'd be for a stranger. The marking process is enough for her to get her head around, without some stranger trying to attack her with clippers.

I think so too, but I don't like un-matching clipping so I'll have to whip the clippers all over her so that the lines match.

If in doubt I'd clip her yourself before the lady comes out, don't want to ruin all the hard work you've done in getting her used to the clippers

Just reclip a small patch where the freeze mark will go

I know that's the sensible answer......but I don't like patches in Patches coat! LOL

Would it be really bad of me to re-clip her all over instead?

If it was to be done under saddle I would leave it to the lady to do it as she knows where it is going to go exactly and the clippers are usually VERY quiet battery ones, and if it is under saddle she will need a few days off anyway.
If it is going on neck or shoulder I would reclip all over

It's on her shoulder. It was done last year but the 8 didn't work out as a bald mark so they're re-doing it for free.

Funny you should say that - apart from when Cloud was first freeze-marked, I've never been able to see hers

.

I'd just clip the small shoulder area.

As you can see from this picture, Tia, the 8 at the start is barely visible.

Had she not been grey, I'm sure it would be a white mark as the hair is coarser there. One of the other letters is a bit dodgy too. Not sure if I just know what it reads because I chose the mark.

I would clip the area as, if you don't, the Frezemark person will. Had three of mine done in the summer and despite one having the shortest coat ever, she still tried to clip, just to make sure. So you might as well do it yourself so as not to upset Patch.

I gave her another full clip! I went to clip her shoulder and was stunned at how much coat she'd grown in 8 days so I decided to take it all off again.

So much easier to clip a shorter coat than a longer one when your horse is as hairy as she is.

Mark re-done now. She did the 8 and the L. Didn't redo the A as part of it was indeed bald and the iron would've burnt the skin.

They're so thick skinned aren't they?

She left the irons on today for two minutes each. I don't remember her leaving them on that long last time.
