quick question re dog licking himself

My 1year old lab is maybe just being randy but he keeps waking me up in morning licking his privates, looks a tiny bit red while he licks but can't see anything else odd looking.
Is it just puberty making him do this or is it a trip to vets for a check up?

Does he dry hump things?

No or on the very odd occasion he has humped his bed but only when wound up and probably only 6x since he came to us at 10 week old.

could be an infection or something stuck take a peek. My male has a habit of finding the spikiest weed or bush in the area to pee and poo on and we've had several trips to the vets to remove various thorns or stuff thats made him very uncomfy.

Iv had a look and can't see anything there. Think will take him to vets on Friday if still doing same thing in morning.
He isn't agitated or restless in general or struggling to pee.

As suggested they can get debris stuck in there and it irritates and it dries the area out making it very sore, usually dry humping can make it alot worse with the rubbing and friction against the objects they desire otherwise it could be him getting a little fruity with himself or as suggested a slight infection.

Thanks cayla. Had a chat with vet today- told me to keep an eye on the habit as its only early morning he says not likely to be anything wrong. Just being rude!

My 18 month lab x collie never humps, but every now and then when he's licking his bits sometimes his "lipstick" comes out a tiny bit and he licks it and it goes away. It also comes out if he's excited. Unless it's it excessive licking I wouldn't be too worried...
