Quick question as just debating which rugs to order online!

How do you find Wetherbeeta fit? Any good for big horses (specifically in my case a 17hh IDx)?

I can't get a 6ft9, which he usually has, in the rug I like but could get it in a 7ft. Wondering whether to go for a 7ft...hoping you'll all say Wetherbeeta come up small so I can just buy a bigger size than usual!

Thanks

I’m not a Wetherbeeta fan for big horses (just didn't sit right and tight around the front), I personally found the best fit was the Fal/ Slumberdown on our 16’3hh ID. I like Mark Todds on my Cob and Fjord, big around the shoulder.

Wouldn't use wetherbeeta on my own, i personally don't like them, just find they're not quite the full ticket in terms of what you're paying, but thats just my opinion.

Thanks Jo, you might have just stopped me from buying a rug I would have hated!

Thinking about it, the best on him that we already have are Horseware (not Amigo, my horse appears to have expensive tastes

) and Rhino. I'll have a look at Mark Todd but must admit I've never been a big fan in the past.

Thanks

i found them a bit tight around the neck on a 14.3 lw cob. ok not as bigs as yours but i dont think going up a size would have made a difference. I think they were the wrong shape for my horse. Thats probally not much help really, sorry

I like Weatherbeeta rugs, the stable rugs did used to come up big a couple of seasons ago but last winter I bought my mare a Belmont stable rug and the fit was more like normal size. The turnouts I have had have lasted well and washed and re-proofed excellent. I especially like the big tail flap on the freestyle rugs, keeps out the wind in winter. Shires rugs are also very similar and are fast catching up in style.

Would be fab. You are welcome to come and stay here for a night or two if it makes it easier for you to go

Re. rugs - it's got to be horsewear rhino or rambo - I wouldn't buy anything else!!

Masta used to be good but quality of material gone downhill so as to make them cheaper. The Check Techs in particular not good at staying together at the seams. Rambo or Amigo along with Weatherbeeta my personal choices. Have a Rambo Duo which is still like new and will be going into its 4th Winter this year.

I'm actually a massive fan of Horseware Amigo but they don't fit Monty very well - baggy/gappy around the chest and a bit short on the back, but huge in the next size up.
I bought that Mark Todd when we went to Burghley but wasn't all that happy with it TBH, for the price. I'd have been really pi££ed off if I'd paid full price for it.

Masta is okay - however, only for lightweights.
Their heavy weights use this really strange fabric which seems to absorb water rather than repel it, and this makes them so so soo heavy (not as in warmth). i also find their rugs are too short and don't go down the leg very far.
Wow, i never realised how fussy I am

Where do you get them from? I'm trying to find something on Equestrian Clearance as I want a Roma dressage saddlecloth that's on there. If you can point me in the direction of somewhere to buy JHL that would be great. Have a fleece of theirs and it's lovely

I quite like Weatherbeta rugs, I have the 'belmont' in both full neck and half neck nd both fit Buzz pretty well. i also have Masta rugs for him and a Mark Todd which i like the weight of but not keen on the fit. I can safely say i have far to many rugs for one little neddie!!

Go for a rhino then

A good compromise.

I'm not really a fan of the Amigos and their fit; I bought one, and I wouldn't buy another. The rambos are FAB, but I only buy them if I get them at a good price

I have yet to chuck out and replace any of the rhino/rambos I've bought over the last several years and horses, and mine are out 24/7, generally clipped and no field shelter

Hello you
grin.gif

I have an Amigo LW TO for him which I originally bought in 7ft but it was massive on him (he's usually 6ft9). It was like putting a bag on him!

Sent it back and changed for a 6ft9 which is gappy on the chest but a bit too short in the back. I love Amigo rugs but they don't suit him.

I am tight and don't really want to pay £80 for a proper Horseware one so am going to keep bargain hunting I think!

My last masta lw was very disappointing and fell apart unbelievably quickly

In fact, it's the only rug to fail on me and be written off in the last few years. I was gutted as previously I used to buy their HWs and loved them. I wouldn't buy another now.

Hello, glad to see Monty back in action

If the Amigo don't suit what about Rambo's? Pidge has expensive taste in rugs so has these and Amigo's and I would guess he's a similar shape to Pidge? I know they are expensive but no need for stable rugs as they are breathable.
Are you up for Somerford at some stage as will have to organise an outing with L154XX, Patches and Mooch?
