Rerun...was having awful problem's with boy's itchy ears and eating his feet.

We changed his food from AG puppy junior to James Wellbeloved, cut out all treats, monitored him closely and used Audiclear (I think) and Thornit on ears to be on the safe side, all cleared up. He liked the food and it seemed to work but he dropped coat condition a little.

We changed to AG hypoallergenic three weeks ago because of price, availability and recommendations and in the last few days he has been scraping the insides of his elbow (all bald now

) and ears getting a bit dirty, but not to the extent of last time.

BUT - Just after Xmas mum bought a bag of chews, which she thought were OK as they said '100% natural' but I noticed on Sunday, just after he got one, that they are also 'high in protein'. He was also given a pre-packaged bone on Xmas day.

Shall I wait a few days and continue chasing him around trying to apply ear cleaner and calomine and hope it was the dodgy treats, or change back to James Wellbeloved? I am hoping it isn't the meal as it will be his fifth change

Thanks for reading, I realise it is a bit complicated and boring

No experience with dogs, but we took in a stray kitten that arrived at the farm very cold and far too young to be without it's mum back in September. We really didn't think she would live and didn't want to spend a vast amount on a flea bitten kitten (she was nigh on bald) that was probably going to die anyway.

The local corner shop sold cat litter and Go Cat for kittens as well as the kitten milk (which we watered down with warm water to make it less rich...as she wouldn't lap just water).

Anyway, I digress, she kept losing more hair (even though she was putting on weight - I was weighing her daily) and I applied frontline spray as I was convinced she must have bugs! She was at the vets after a few days and he too felt it was "bugs" even though he found nothing on skin scrapings. She was dosed again by him with pro-meris for cats and we were told to give it a week.

In this week, she got steadily worse. Scabby, itching in her ears, no hair on her tail, neck and across her flanks. Back legs became bald too. She really did look a state.

Vet eventually decided it was an allergy so we changed litter to one without "perfume" in it, cut out the cat milk too. We didn't see any improvement in her coat until we changed her food. She was put on to the "Purely" range from Pets at Home (after first refusing to eat Iams and Hill Science). Within a couple of weeks she had a gleaming coat, hair growing back and was generally more settled.....no itching.

So, to conclude my ramble, it's highly possible that his feed is affecting him!

If I change my dogs diet at all within 24hrs his symptoms start up again

He gets a bit bored with it bless him so we try to 'dress it up' every so often with natural yoghurt etc

If it is a gluten allergy (which it sounds like it may be) I'd avoid the JWB, and try Burns. If your dog is very allergic, go completely gluten free (as opposed to just wheat gluten free which is what JWB, Burns and I think AG are) and the only completely gluten free I know of is Oscar www.oscars.co.uk

We have a rescue with skin flair ups on james well beloved....she is doing really well, she is also under weight for what she should be....but her skin is clear as a whistle
