Quick release fertiliser question

Hi all,

Is it too late to put quick release fertiliser on my field now?

The horses have been off the field now since the beginning of March, when the field was also harrowed. (Couldn't find anyone who could bring a roller,so didn't worry too much)

I make my haylage about the 2nd week of June usually. Was just wondering if its too late to put a quick release fertiliser on now?

I've not used a fertiliser before, but have noticed I have quite a bit of moss on the ground bed and wondered if fertiliser would make the grass stronger and so out-compete the moss?

Neither of my horses are laminitic types (although I never take it for granted that they won't get it).

I am waiting to use the quick release fertiliser, which so far as i understand is a root fertiliser and you only have to keep horses off fields for 4 days so long as it rains to wash fertiliser in, looking at weather forecast, we have no rain at the moment until saturday so looks like I could be working very late friday night fertilising fields, the only one of my fields that has moss is the one that we rented to someone next door who wouldn't let us fertilise or weedkill it for 7 years, we have now got it back so hopefully after harrowing it and fertilising it the moss will go. Wouldn't worry too much about rolling unless your fields are really rutty, I have rolled the rutty bits and left the rest as harrowing tends to aerate the fields and the roller will just squash it down again.
 
Dont worry too much about rain washing it in, we are getting very heavy dew at the moment and that will dissolve it and take it into the ground. Now is the ideal time to fertilise. We use somthing called 20-10-10, which is better suited to horse pasture cos its not pure nitrogen.
 
Are you going to use paddock for grazing or to cut Haylage? If the latter my farming neighbours recommend 8-10 weeks before cutting.

We fertilised fields for grazing about a month ago, but it is not too late.
 
thanks everyone. Have heard about 20-10-10 before. just heard the name, don't know much about it!

rollin - yes, going to take a cut of haylage off it, about the second week of June, but could take a later cut, so i could leave it 8 - 10 weeks.
