went up to see abby, took up a wee torch to hav a really good look. my heart was poundin so fast i was almost in tears cause i was so worried. went in to the stables and everythin was so quiet i got a massive grunt from the geldin cause i woke him up making so much noise lol!!

looked in abbys box and she looked quite content nice and cosy, checked her nose no blood left, dinner eaten, she was munching her hay and had drank some of her water so she must have washed the blood off.

her nose looked very clear and she let me touch her face all over wasn't fussed so i gave her a big cuddle and a kissy and a couple of her wee biscuits and left her to go back to sleep.

so i really don't kno what had caused the bleed fingers crossed it won't happen again

like us they can burst blood vessels by snizzing my shire use to do this it would clear up after half a hour but with me cleaning with tissue
its usally nothing to worry about but if you cant stop the bleeding then you should get the vet out to take alook
but stop worrying (ps iwould do the same)
glad to hear shes better

hiya, just to mirror what everyone is saying i wouldnt worry, im doing an assignment on it at the minuite for uni so thought id chip in, if it was anything to worry about you would know it because it would be really bad, any blood unless it is gushing shouldnt be a problem
had you exercised the horse today? nose bleeds after exercise are very common, especially in ex race horses, its called exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH) its blood from the lungs that builds up when exercising due to pressure but its nothing serious most horses get it but it doesnt make its way out of the nose!

By all means im not saying this to worry you at all but do get it checked out if it continues, no matter how small the bleeds are.

Last year my gelding had slight nosebleeds every day for about a week and i got him checked out only to find out he had an ethmoid haematoma growing in his sinus cavity, it was filling the whole cavity by the time it was found.

He has since had an operation to remove it and has recovered brilliantly and is now ready for his first cross country competition at the weekend!

My horses nosebleeds were not gushes of blood either, just 8 or so drops of blood on the floor over his door during the night, so just keep an eye out and if you are at all worried her checked out.

Hope its all going to be ok though!
