Off to work again now so thought I'd quickly update you all. Thanks for your lovely messages last night.

Vet called at 4 this morning and said that whilst the infection to the hock was severe they're hopeful they've got it all out. He was back up on his feet when they called me.

Just praying now that they have cleared it right out.....fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed and more vibes being sent!

((((((((((((((((((((((((((VIBES)))))))))))))))))))))))

He is in good hands.

At least work will take your mind of it a bit.

Wow, can't believe that an infection can take hold so quickly.

Glad he's come round from the surgery ok.

Good news - hope he continues to improve

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. Just got back from visiting Oscar. He's very grumpy (no painkillers so he stands still) but the op was a success. I didn't realise but his hock was dangerously septic last night so thank god he went straight there last night - don't think he'd be here today if it had happened overnight.

Anyways, vet seems to think that he'll be out of work for quite a while and I'm guessing a fair few weeks on boxrest, but that's smallfry if he's going to pull through.

Next couple of days are important obviously as we have to wait to see if the infection is completely gone....

Thanks again for your thoughts xx

I know, it's frightening. I feel awful as my sharer rode him on Mon morning but we couldn't get up to see him until last night. If he'd had done it around 12 noon on Mon then there woudln't be an Oscar now....he's so dark and the cut so small that the first anyone would have noticed was when the fever set in and he was on the floor....which would have been too late to get him anywhere. It's a very frightening thought and I've made the decision that he's coming in at night again now - I just can't risk him as he just winds the other horses up!
