Looking for suggestions for a quick way to provide extra shelter in the field. I have big hedges to 3 sides but the weather is coming from the other direction at the moment :(
It's been horrible this week. I was thinking about adding a couple of garden fence panels to provide a wind break but would welcome other suggestions especially cheap ones.

If you have boundary wooden sturdy fencing you could use ‘builders scaffold netting’ fixed on the OUTSIDE of the fencing so the horses cant play with it, if theyre the type!

you could extend the height of the main posts of the fencing with 2x2 timber screwed in firm, on the outside of the posts, then fix the netting to the extended parts too - giving you a 6-8 foot height Windbreak. The builders netting is pretty good for wind break material. i use it for plant protection in a very exposed field.

The netting stretches really well so make sure you stretch it very taught and fix in as many points as possible.

this is a fair priced site:

Its often sold as windbreak netting on other sites

I got a 50 metre roll of it quite cheap. If you wanted to make it even better as a windbreak you could double it up, tho’ you’d need to have sturdy posts to fix to, as the wind gusts will billow it with some force if haphazardly pinned up, so try to pull it as tight as possible and fix in as many places as possible.

The site i linked to does different colours - i’d get white or another light colour as i have deer crashing through my green netting and weakening my posts as they bounce off, as they cant seem to see green in the dark. Yet at night they see the white fencing i have. If you dont have deer problems or escaping horses issues, you’ll be fine with green!

Big square or round bales are the safest if the wind blowing gale force, the wind can usually take most temporary wind breaks down unless fitted really secure
