Our dog is frightened of the sound of crackers and I am sure our new puppy ŵill be very hyper when they go off. Does anyone know where you can buy quiet crackers

Buy any old crackers, carefully take out the snap and when the cracker is pulled...say, in a very quiet whisper...Bang! works for me and my 88 year old mother every time:D

How exciting are everyone else's crackers?!? How quiet are your houses (libraries ;-)) the rest of the year? Appreciate that I'm lucky to have rehomed a dog who isn't that fussed about even large public firework displays nearby but Christmas crackers? Seriously?!? There are plenty of dogs we train to be relaxed around gun shots... Mine was scared of helicopters when he arrived but a bit is reassurance did the trick. Previous rehomed dog wasn't as keen on fireworks but would happily snooze under a dining table whilst crackers were pulled all around it...

TBH if it were me I'd be buying a huge bag of those party popper things (smaller and cheaper than crackers but make a similar 'bang' - pound shops etc will have them in store for NYE) and using them along with a huge bag of doggie treats to desensitise. Being able to cope with a normal family gathering (whatever that means for the family concerned) is a requirement of a trainable household pet imo.

I must admit I didn't think crackers were loud enough to scare dogs- even those that dislike fireworks. But it is very easy to pull the snap part out or just cut it in half with cracker still pretty much in tact
