I have some Masterclip HD Roamer clippers which are great as they are cordless and heavy duty for his coat which is very thick.

However I find them hard to wield when doing his legs and he can be very fidgety with his legs so I am looking for some that are a bit smaller and quieter but that will get through the course hair without tugging it.

I am currently doing some desensitising with him and the bigger clippers as they are quite noisy (and heavy and bulky for his legs).

TIA

It's a bit of a tradeoff really quiet and low vibration comes with less power I find. I have a set of cordless pet trimmers that are super quiet, and next to no vibration but they really chug through hairy cob legs. If I'm slow and patient I can do them but I only get 2 legs to a charge.
We have a slightly better wahl trimmer which does a quicker better job, but is noisier and vibrates more. Both were only cheap ones off amazon though

My cob has really thick coarse feathers but won’t tolerate my large clippers on his legs. If I let his feathers get too long I trim with scissors first. I’ve then got a set of Liveryman Classic Trimmers, which if you go really slowly will get through what’s left of the feathers. It does take time but they’re really quiet and they do the job.

I would go with Lister Liberty clippers. They are quiet and run off a battery pack strapped to your waist so the handpiece is light and manoeuvreable. I use mine for dagging cattle and crutching sheep as well as clipping horses so they are plenty powerful enough for cob feathers.

If you really keep on top of them, you can use a trimmer. I used to use my Liveryman Classics to keep my cob hogged and heeled. He had moderately thick feather but a friend used them successfully on something with legs like a forest.

Another one who would recommend the liveryman classics. Mine has incredibly thick feathers and mane so you have to go slowly initially but once the first chop is done the maintenance is straightforward.
She hates being clipped and had to be sedated before.

Also, I suggest washing and drying the mane and feathers fully first as removing the grease greatly enhances the performance of the clippers!

I find that my Liveryman Harmonies are much easier to use around legs and fetlocks than full size clippers. They are also quiet. As said above, get the legs clean first. Will he let you scissor the worst of the feather off first, so that you can get his legs really clean before you clip?

The Harmonies slice through my IDx cob’s winter feathers with ease. I can do a full clip with them too, if I use a wide blade.

Thanks everyone. Im going to see if I can get some harmony clippers I've seen someone clip with them and they were very quiet.

He is ok with me brushing his legs so I think i could scissor them.

Tiddlypom can I ask what blades you use for the legs?
