Quigley had a cardiac arrest and died yesterday. He was only five and such a beautiful, sweet natured and friendly horse. He had been receiving treatment for sinusitis since February and had undergone two unsuccessful surgeries. Yesterday we drove him from Devon to the Midlands for investigations by a medicine specialist. He was then scheduled for laser surgery to make permanent drainage channels between his sinuses. He died under sedation whilst being flushed. The most likely explanation is that the chronic infection had broken down the bone between his sinus and his brain and the flushing flooded his brain. I was on my way back to Devon when I was told. He put up with such a lot with patience, stoicism and good humour. My heart has been ripped to shreds. My only consolation is that we did all we could and he knew how much I adored him.
