Heard the very sad news today that Chris has passed away. So sad that he wasn't able to enjoy his retirement having just sold his practice to Rossdales (Herts).

Thoughs with all those who loved him.

He had a series of strokes over the past few months.

Rip chris. Second that he could nt enjoy his retirement and a big thank you to him for dealing with my complete vet phobic horse for last few years when other younger vets have walked away.! Will always rememer him for his no nonsense approach!!

We had same age children who were 'best friends' for a few years so I got to know him as a friend (he never was my vet). A lovely man who always seemed to have time to help out at PC when needed.

I remember my son coming home from playing at theirs, they had made a go cart and he had crashed. He had been cleaned up, had Aluspray applied and dressed with vet wrap!

a great vet and regard him as a friend. first had him as my vet many many years ago and he was brilliant with the horses and always ready to explain everything in the way i understood. i think he was in his early seventies as he was definately older than me........what a shame he couldnt enjoy his well earned retirement.....RIP Chris....

A great vet... My vet is now at rossdales after working with Chris Harris for many years. I have a mare I brought over from Russia who is a bit stressy, and I'll always remember him trying to talk to her in Polish (as the next best thing to Russian) to calm her down! Such a nice man.

Chris was my vet for 35 years from when I had my first horse in London. He could always be relied upon to come out to an emergency whatever the time or day. When I moved to North Hertfordshire he continued to be my vet. He was a real human being and very caring towards both horse and its owner. It was so sad that he was not given the time to enjoy his retirement. My sincere condolences to his family.

RIP Chris

Such a fantastic vet and horseman to boot.

His totally no nonsense approach to everything was brilliant.

I always enjoyed his company whether with horses or not.

It was such a shame that he had to retire due to the strokes but he made sure that his practice was taken over by the BEST possible replacement for him, in the form of Rossdales!

Have fun Chris up there, sure know you will!

Lorna, my new vet from Rossdales Hertfordshire, rang me on Sunday morning to tell me the sad news. I had so much respect for that man! I thought he was an amazing vet, as did my daughter, and i just loved his sense of humour - my rather voluptuous friend, Sally, had a lame horse. After trotting it up about four times for Chris, Sally said "Chris, can't you tell whether he's lame?" to which Chris replied "Just enjoying the bounce, Sally!"! And, last autumn, he was x-raying one of my horses. I had recently remarried and Chris made a big point (light hearted, since I was 56 at the time!) that I should stand well clear of the x-ray equipment "You being newly married and all that!" he quipped! Just loved that man - he helped my horses on so many occasions and I trusted him implicitly. He was so kind when I had to say goodbye to Sapphire (1994) and Dolly (2001). So, so sad. People like him cannot be replaced.

Very sad to hear of a decent vet passing away.

On a different note, glad to see you are still able to move Keeperscottage...

OMG, how awful!

He was brilliant when Catembi was seriously ill, & did v v early morning daily visits to save me booking it as hol. He also did so much research into the condition.

Can't believe this. What a shame - and a loss to the profession.

He wasn't my vet but I have seen him bobbing around my local yard for years...RIP Chris - he was an excellent vet, very old fashioned from what I remember.

Such a sad loss , was my vet for many years untill he recently retired . My thoughts are with Lorna and all the family , R.I.P Chris you will be sadly missed .

I was very saddened to hear of Chris Harris passing away. He was a great vet and helped me through some tough times with my horses. I also had the chance to work for him and he was also a great boss. He will truely be missed by many and I just wish I could be there to share the blessing of his amazing life.
