Keisha is gone, we had to make the decision yesterday evening for her to go to sleep. She had lost a huge amount of weight over the last couple of months, to the point we thought she surely couldn't stand up any longer but she kept going, in great form and still hopping in and out of the caravan. She wasn't eating the best, and was living on poached trout, one brand of dog food or sliced ham, as the notion took her.

But yesterday was different, she hadn't eaten well in a couple of days, was losing the ability to actually lap water and was weak. Her eyes were telling us, she was following us, standing next to us, looking up and her eyes were different, we just knew the time had come. It was horrible to have to take her but I certainly felt no guilt as she needed help, I am heartbroken but know it was for the best. We are all in a bad way, there is a gap that will never be filled.

It was 6 months ago that we thought we had lost her, she rallied round and gave us some more precious time together.

Some memories we have of Keisha..

Goodnight Keisha...

So so sorry. You did the right thing and now she is at peace. It doesn't make it any easier though does it?? She was a beautiful lady.

Oh I do feel for you. I lost my Westie dog last August after a choking accident and I still have his sister, she is 15 1/2 and I know I will have to make the same decision soon about putting her to sleep and I am dreading it.
I am sure she had an amazing life with you.

so sorry to hear that you have lost Keisha - those who do not share their lives with dogs cannot undersatnd the huge gap their passing leaves in our lives, this poem always comforts me when I have lost any of mine:

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there , I do not sleep
I am the thousand winds that blow
i am the diamond glint of snow
I am sunlight on ripened grain
I am the soft Autumnal rain.
When you wake in the morning hush
I am the first uplifted rush
of silent birds in circled flight
I am the stars that shine at night
do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there .....I did not die.

It's terribly sad to lose a friend but you knew and she knew that the time was right. How nice that you have so many happy memories and lovely photos. XX

Thank you everyone for your kind words. The first picture is how we want to remember her, she was a dog in a million, she started off in the show ring, then the agility ring, excelling in both but it was as a family pet and true friend we will remember and love her..
