R.I.P. Miss Dodd Noble - Sandon Saddleery

used to work for her, a fascinating if terrifying lady at times. Very sad to hear this news, I understood she'd been quite unwell in recent times.

RIP

A lovely lady, of the old school, and so knowledgeable. Shopping at Sandon is such an adventure - you never know what you might find tucked away in a corner upstairs!

Dawn always had time to dig around to find what you wanted, and time for a chat after.

Not forgetting a lecture about how things used to be and also a quick trip down memory lane with stories of the donkeys.

She had forgotten more about horses and saddlery than most people will ever learn

I have 3 saddles I bought from her over the years. She did not suffer fools gladly but if you knew what you wanted she would try her hardest.
I once heard her telling off a very posh 30 something gentleman about his polo boots,he stood there as if he was back at school. That shop was like something out of Harry Potter.

One of my favourite memories was when what was clearly a man, dressed as a rather smart lady came in whilst I was shopping. They wanted some riding boots to complete an outfit. She never even hesitatesd and found him what he wanted. merely pausing to ask which pack he hunted with!

I'll never forget as a 14 year old going in there looking for a flash noseband and her telling me I should perhaps try schooling my pony properly instead! A wonderful aladdins cave of a place and a very memorable lady.

Oh what a shame I was taken there for my first riding outfit. An amazing lady who was so interesting to listen to. Loved her donkey stories and she advised my parents about the right way to look after out first donkey. Especially when he got something called bog itch a nasty infection around he fetlocks were he lost all the hair and he would tear at them with his teeth. I got my first side saddle from her and habit. She also pointed me in the right direction for a wonderful teacher. Shall miss her very much.

RIP Miss Dodd Noble

Bought my first saddle from Dawn, Wont ever forget being led up and down the road on my pony- in just a headcollar as we tried out saddles.
She had a true sugar voice that you could listen to for hours.

I hope that the shop can continue her good work

that is really sad, RIP Miss Noble.

Going to Sandon as a kid was a big day out.My parents would part-ex my riding gear for larger riding gear and we would have lunch at the Little Chef on the way home. I last went about 4/5 years ago and spent the whole day digging about in there, it's an amazing place.

I remember looking at a hideous bit-sort of a cross between a gag and a weymouth with a hinged bit on the back-she told me it was for a 'certain kind of cob, the sort that sets its neck and tanks off in walk with you' and she also said it would never be sold to anyone.

Very sad R.I.P Miss Dodd Noble. Crikey I have so many memories of Sandon.I went as a very young child over 40yrs ago with my parents and was allowed a ride on the rocking horse. My daughter did the same. I would spend ages chatting with Dawn. We always said if you couldnt find what you wanted at Sandon then it probably didnt exist. Dawn could be very kind and generous, she offered to lend my daughter a top hat if she ever got to HOYS.

Oh, what a shock! She is irreplaceable! They threw away the mould! Love Sandon Saddlery - it's like a step back in time where they give you a receipt with the VAT worked out even if you buy a packet of crisps!!! And the donkey dressage! Oh, my God, what a loss to our local equine world!

I've twice gone into her shop with the intention of buying a reasonably priced secondhand saddle and on both occasions walked out with a brand new saddle which I didn't intend buying!

So, so sad! I wonder what's going to happen to the shop? Hertfordshire horse world won't be the same without Sandon!
