Hello. For some time now my wrist has ached.I use one of those poo-pickers with the little rake thingy and I think that constant use, every day for several years has caused this.I have tried swapping hands but cannot do it.This morning it was so painful that I had to use both hands for the rake and it took ages.Has anybody else had this problem?Should I strap my wrist up?

i had this problem, cant remember what caused it now but ended up having a steroid jab in my wrist which luckily for me sorted it out. it doesnt work for everyone and some people need a small op on the area after all other avenues have been exausted. you could try strapping it up but doubt it would help much as your wrist sounds like it is really painful if you had to use both hands on the rake . best thing to do is get an appointment with your doc and see what they suggest, they will try everything before they operate so dont panic. ive also had to have steroid jabs in my elbow due to repititive work, when that was bad i couldnt even hold a pad of paper without my arm hurting so i know how you feel ! good luck with it

strapping your wrist up will certainly give them support but maybe its best to get some advice from the doctors? thats what i would do anyway. could you use gloves to muck out instead?

Try to keep your wrist straight when you are using them over a period of time. Yes my wrist has ached before however it has only ever been temporary and once I stop poo-picking in the winter and the harrow comes out in the summer, the ache goes away.

Oh no,think gloves=bad back.Ponies have stables with doors left open into small yard area.most wee is in stable and poo outside.Maybe Iwill try sweeping then shovel into barrow.Yes,think I will visit Dr.(when I have time).

I have that problem, and find the poo picking things make it really bad.
I now use either rubber gloves or two dustpans. And so far this winter I havent had a problem.

Two dustpans eh?yes, this may be worth a try.The more Ithink about it,its quite scarey-do I always carry haynets over the same shoulder?water buckets in same hand?carry tack on the same hip?good job I`m not a horse,I`d be most one sided!

haynets get put in a huge tub trug and carried with both hands. Whatever can go in the wheelbarrow and get pushed rather than carried, does.

ooohh I used to get this with those blasted poo pickers but mine was up my forearm..must have a different technique. I now use a shavings fork to remove poo piles in my field..better for my back too..

The problem with those poo pickers is that they have a very narrow handle. You could try wrapping the handle with vetwrap or similar to make it more bulky which might be more comfortable for you

They kill me, when I do poo picking in the field I really suffer the next day. I think its how they are designed because other than that tool, I dont get it.

I have changed to using a shavings fork and alternative when doing work in the paddock.

Someone needs to design a poop scoop so that it is more user friendly.

I get the pain up in my elbow (tennis elbow?) but have significantly improved it by 2 things. Stopping using the long pitchfork when mucking out and using the short (garden type one) fork instead. Also with poo pickers, if I use the shorter child's type one instead of the taller handled one, I don't seem to be affected. Did 4 barrowloads poo yesterday, 2 today (the mud's dried out so can get the barrow in the field now) and I have a slight twinge, but niggling rather than painful. Will definitely try that idea of padding out the handle on the poofork and see if it helps at all.
