Is anyone else considering bringing in shivering wimps that are usually out 24/7?
I didn't get rainsheets on two of them in time & they're cold despite being fatties! Have lobbed some hay at them, but it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.
 
OP - whats a rail dance? Lol .... Been raining in West Yorks now since about 12pm too, glad tho as we need it, fields will be changing colour very soon. Horses were very very pleased to come in tonight, esp the girls and it was bloomin cold.
 
Mine cantered up me calling despite being a chunky Section D out on grass for once (usually dieting) with a no fill on - it had soaked straight through & first time I've caught him shivering! He's gone back out in his 220g trusty Weatherbeeta
 
Started here in Leicestershire at about 10.30 this morning and it's still going! Can't complain though as we desperately need it! Ponies were cold today though! My two boys are in tonight! Yes I am a softy! ;) And the other three are out in their MW rugs! :)

have been out in it all day doing fencing.
one of ours absolutley hates wind and rain so all have come in early but they are on restricted turnout so cant afford for them to prat about.

like you say the grass will grow but i must be the only person with grass as my horses are only on tiny patches..
 
Rain is good.... for somethings like, grass growing, or washing bird turd off your car, but for waterproofs that ain't waterproof, you get 1 soggy Ruth!! I won't mention that large puddle right by the car door, I saw it, reminded myself it was there to be dodged, got distracted by son and.... went splosh. Oh, I did mention it... ooppss.
Penny had it mastered, she has found a little shelter IN the hedge, that Meg is too big to get into!! Poor Meg.
 
Wow I can't believe how soft some of you are! Putting middleweight rugs on horses - in June? I'm in the Northwest - we have rain most days, but mine have both only had lightweights on since the beginning of April - and only when it's really heavy rain. They won't melt in the rain, honestly! They have waterproof skin. Oh and by the way, can you send us some warm dry weather pretty please? LOL!
 
Today the rain here has been very unseasonal! Heavy heavy all day with no let up. Mine came in at 2 shivering and drenched straight through his lightweight. If he was out tonight he would certainly be in a MW, but he's in with a thermotex on drying out and muching hay. He's a hardy lad as well, I was very suprised to see him shivering in June! :eek:
 
Just brought our warmblood in as she was soaked to the skin and cold - almost everyone else on the yard has brought theirs in as well apart from a couple who live out 24/7/365.

Note to Self: When putting on wet weather gear to go and get horse in remember to put the bloody hood on!!!!! Doh
 
Been raining here since 11.30am but we are desperate for it, Jack happily munching grass in the middle of the field as I type this, when I fed him at 5pm I decided not to rug him as it was still reading 18 degrees on our thermometer and wasnt cold, plus he is roughed off on his hoildays, but still dont like him to be cold.

Been raining here all day!! Put my foal out in a a bit ago, she's not really been out in proper rain before as she was born at the end of March just coinciding with the complete stopping of rain!!

Was expecting her to be a bit feeble and need bringing in, but no, she's grazing in the middle of the field being all tough and grown-up, going 'rain? what rain? Doesn't bother me, tusk, am not feeble, am tough little war horse........nom nom nom...... oooo milkybar time, come here Mummy.............' bless :D (yes, I speak foal)
 
Our rain started yesterday. Was nice and bright this morning so had a play on xc course and ground was soooo much better and grass much greener. Raining again now so hopefully ODE next week could be on decent ground. :D

Ha ha, that made me laugh!

Heavy rain in West Wales all day too, horses were violently shivering, it has been freezing today though.
 
It started raining properly here yesterday afternoon & I don't think it's stopped since! Got drenched yesterday but was prepared today wearing an all-in-one motorbike waterproof :p haha. Still freezing by the time I got in due to my work boots leaking though.

Horse was out yesterday because with no rug on when it was nice hot sunshine & I was out when it started raining so she's been out since. She's got shelter & there's only once when I've actually seen her shivering & that was easter last year. Last I saw she had her head on the floor munching as per usual :rolleyes::)

Yep! weve had rain every other day but by the next day our fields have been rock hard again but we have had ALOT today! mine are in medium weights, they arnt too hot but their lightweights were completely soaked through! It stopped raining at about 6pm and apart from the odd shower its seems to have stopped!
 
Yep its still 'railing' here lol in East Yorks. No rain sheets on though, pretty miserable isnt it, there's no happy medium, its either dry as a bone for weeks or it throws it down none stop.
 
Glad to read that some others on here got a bit caught out too. I was collecting my daughter from a party when the rain went from drizzly to torrential. He was naked as he is a hairy cob!
Went to feed by boy around 6.45 and he was shivering and tucked up. Felt awful. Didn't give him his feed, brought him in to a hay net and put on his Thermotex. Been back a bit later and changed him into a dry fleece and finally given him his dinner! He is not amused that he is in but I don't want him catching a chill! Felt really bad, don't feel quite so awful now I hear a few others have been caught out too............ think I'd got into summer mode a bit early!
 
well it certainly wasnt like june here yesterday. Top temp i saw on the car was 8 degrees :eek: My two oldies came in at about 11.30 shivering a ridicualous amount and there LW's were already starting to soak through. They stopped in until this morning just having a change into dry fleeces once they were dry. They were actually very happy to be in.
went to see TB in a waterproof topped fly rug, he was galloping around with the others because there were some hikers with orange bags over them...they did look wierd. He saw me came straight upto me shivering so he came in to dry off with fleece, then went out in MW for the night. Just been to change it back to fly sheet though as its sooo much warmer today here!! Bloody weather...on the plus side the fields are actually a bit soft now!!
 
Yep. It rained yesterday in Cambridgeshire, and I rode 64km in it (about 40 miles!) - in the true spirit of endurance riding.

Got home (Buckinghamshire) to find the rest of the gang shivering. Had no choice but to rug up wet horses, but all their rugs are breathable, and I've done this many times before with no ill effects.
