Feel free to ignore, just venting.

There's a bloke walks past here twice a day with a Spangle and I know it comes in the garden as one of the dogs always goes mental, I know who it is before I look out the window.
Loads of people/dogs walk past every day and he doesn't bark.
Dog is offlead and hunts/quarters the whole time, bursts in and out of hedges/up dog's backsides when out walking etc.

Was doing bit of training in the garden with pup and she runs up to gate woofing when she hears hears someone coming (I am working on this) and all of a sudden the thing is in my garden chasing her round the concrete bit of the driveway and she's squealing.
I roar WHY IS THERE A DOG IN MY GARDEN And he calls it, says 'sorry' and keeps walking.
I doubt it hurt her (with teeth) but I think she has hurt herself running and is a bit sore behind.
I'm bloody furious. Would it not be polite to stop and check? Carry a lead? Not let your dog run into other people's gardens?
I have a car gate, pedestrian gate, both closed/secured.

Stand down, stand down lol.

Was out with middle dog (who is 'hiya/who are you' woofy but pleasant) and it started zipping up and down past again. I stuck head out the gate and guy was genuinely 100m back up the lane.
It ran into the estate across the way and either it or another dog started squealing.
It ran off again and he eventually turned up and it was on a long flexi.

I said 'can you please keep it on a lead going past here', he said it normally was (that is balls, plus the byelaw for this area is a 1m leash) and I said sorry for shouting, but pup is only a few months old and is quite sore and he seemed apologetic.
Also said at the distance he is away he has no control/can't see where dog is/what it is doing and his dog could get hurt also.

Ok, coffee time, thanks for reading lol.

I think you have every right to react even stronger than you did. He's lucky you have been reasonable. Based on his previous actions I assume it'll happen again eventually you should video it if/when it does. Is he trying to show off that his dog isn't on a lead?

It is just working like a spaniel works...but this is a popular walking route through a residential area, it's not an appropriate place for it, there are shoots and trials for that!

I think I’d be inclined to let her dad sort it ?, though of course then you’d be in the wrong . Hope it hasn’t spooked little one too much and there are no ill effects .

She seems ok now but it's not going to help her reactivity to passers-by ?
I usually give her dad a ball so he *doesn't* get arsey with passing dogs, silly me for being polite lol!

Exactly there are plenty of places in all areas of the country he could let it do what it needs too. Coming on to your private property is unacceptable, and more so if he's caused your pup an injury. I don't like flexi leads either feels like cheating but that's a whole other story

If it’s jumping in,then I’d get your voice on,take your most macho dog out with you and explain to this man that next time his forest gump free runner jumps in ,he may well be greeted by “macho” and his brothers..say it won’t be pretty but he’s been warned in advance.

I don't think he has any sense. He could have heard the middle dog barking at his in the garden from miles away and the older one from inside everyday. Like when he was at my gate on the return leg, the middle dog was barking at his (not an aggressive bark but I don't expect non-geeks to be able to gauge the tone of my dogs' individual barks lol).
I dunno if your dog disappeared from sight and you could hear barking/squealing, would you not run and investigate???

Out just now, she barked at a lab and then came and wee'd on my boot ? then a schoolkid walked past and she ran to gate but stayed quiet and recalled.

Rant away, CC. Justified IMO.

It makes me sad when I see dogs off lead on pavements and paths alongside a road. No dog is 100% reliable and just because it has never strayed onto the road before doesn't mean it never will. I don't know why people risk their friend's life trying to look cool or clever.

I hope your little one bounces back from this.

I would just let them out ,in your own garden..if it keeps happening he could seriously set back your pups confidence and worse safety..
Talk about invasion of privacy!
Maybe also put up a sign on your gate..”we live here”.. with the shepherds pics..not a threat, just information.:)

I already do have signs! Very tasteful copper ones which used to belong to my mother ;)

I'm another for capturing the dog and keeping hold of it for a couple of days, then either taking it back to the owner or down to the council claiming to have found it as a stray.

A few years ago, not long after moving into this house, I accidentally pulled the driveway gate off its badly rusted hinges. One day the neighbour didn't notice that as he was leaving for work that his spaniel had sneaked out of the house into the garden, and then followed his car out of the driveway before the motorised gate closed. The dog decided to pay me a visit and left his muck in the garden.

I took him to his own home, but there was no answer when I rang the bell; I had errands to run that day, so couldn't keep the dog while waiting for his owner to come back. It was a fine day, not to hot and not too cold, so I tied a rope to the dog's collar and attached him to the owner's gate, and left a tub of water by him. I also put his muck in a plastic bag attached to his collar and left a note on the gate to explain how I'd found the dog and why I didn't keep him for the day.

It is so fast, I don't think I'd have a chance.

It did run in once (gate was open as I was going out) while I was sorting dogs at the back of the car. I did have the oldest dog on the lead for whatever reason, thank goodness....

So I just spoke to my neighbours/landlords, and it runs into their garden twice a day. He obviously couldn't care less and I imagine it craps everywhere too, how would he know?

How does he think he can carry on doing this, it sounds like such bizarre behaviour. Its going to end badly and most likely for his spaniel, but as you point out he doesn't seem bothered anyway

We had the interesting experience of a neighbour getting a beagle puppy, with no secure area for it. The morning she "forgot" to keep an eye on it and it managed to get into our yard which was secure for two Rotters could have been interesting, if we hadn't spotted it before letting ours out!

Just to clarify, it's a one-way lane with vehicular access for the two houses on it, then turns into a linear walking path just after my house. So a lot of people let their dogs out at the bottom. But the vast majority don't case a problem. On the other side of the hedge is a housing estate and there are lots of cars coming and going.

Blimey it sounds just like my A.D.D little Jessie - I cannot imagine what he is thinking allowing a dog like that off the lead in that sort of area! I would not dare risk my own dog, other peoples dogs or other peoples property like that. How bloody rude is he!

I would be very, very cross with him, and he would know it. Doesn't deserve to own a dog frankly.

With dog theft sadly rife now, I wouldn't want to advertise having a dog. I hate taking my dog out or bringing him in when traffic is passing, in case potential dog thieves see where we live. They even break into houses to steal dogs. Dog thefts and frequent dog attacks (including one on mine) have taken so much of the pleasure out of having a dog for me, and many others I'm sure. My friend nearly had her dog snatched by a traveller outside a shop in our village in daylight, while waiting for a friend. ? It's a horrible world we live in.
