Strange as this may sound has anyone experienced rabbits digging holes underneath/through the horses poo's in your fields. I poo pick daily or every 2 days so my field is clean but every night - without fail, there are new little holes being dug and they are always going through the dung to do so. There is no pattern to where, along fenceline and in the middle. Its getting annoying and i'm worried the poxy things are going to end up making larger holes that may cause injury. At the moment the holes are only a couple of inches wide/long/deep so wont bother filling but I am keeping an eye just incase big ones appear.

Do rabbits like to eat the bugs that hang round in poo? I thought they were herbivores???
And the strange thing about it is that its not happening in any other fields at our yard. My two have been in this field for 3 years and this is the first time i've seen it.

I think you will find it is badgers doing this not rabbits and yes they do like the bugs in poo. Nothing you can do about it I'm afraid!

i have recently begun to have this problem and im pretty sure its foxes after the big beetle and grubs that live in the poo.

i poo-pick daily and still have it happen.

Not had anything digging holes but often the pheasants go through the dung and kindly spread it everywhere. Much more difficult to poo pick then.

We have had rabbits living in our muckheap before now.

Mmmmmmm toasty! I guess you get used to the aromas after a while... :D

Not the done thing I know, but when our ground froze up, one of the older horses was put in a field which was being used to temporarily pile muck heap for ploughing in later (farm, long story) but had lots of grass. I found him asleep on top of the muck heap after panicking he'd escaped...

I don't think it's rabbits. Whenever I find a rabbit hole, whether it's in the field or along the fence line, I purposely fill it tight with horse muck right up to the level of the grass. It works every time without additional holes cropping up near the original one.

I have the beetles' and rabbits, rabbits leave THEIR poo so I know it's them. They scratch the old grass up thereby harrowing the grazing!!
The jack Russell knows they're rabbits anyway!!!!

yes i have the same problem i know its rabbits has i have the poo to prove it,and ive seen them i also get the big black beetle things

thank you for this gem of information!! i have been refilling rabbit holes for a while now and yesterday filled them full of poo (as much as i cld squeeze in!) and also covered it back over with earth. today i go poopicking and the rabbits had started digging in the earth and then as soon as they hit the poo the digging stopped! fabulous!!!
