Hi all,
Was thinking about doing the next race for life. Was thinking about jogging 5k? What can I expect and if anyones done it before advice please? :D

Edit: Oops didnt realise I was in NL when I posted this, sorry its not horse related. Cbb moving it now :p

aimeejay ive done the race for life and it is fab but i was not at all prepared for it - not the running that was fine 5k isnt far at all - even if you walk its only an hour.
What i wasnt prepared for was the reality of what some people live with -on eveyones backs are notices reading things like 'for my mum' - ok but then there were young kids with notices reading for my mum or dad and ladies with bald heads with notices reading - 'for those who lost their fight'.
Oh my god i was so emotional and it really made me feel lucky for what i have but i cried most of the way round whilst everyone was being cheerful and having fun the sheer volume of people there that had suffered loss through cancer was absolutely unreal - but i was so glad i did it and raised lots of money for them but it was too close to home to soon for me - but i will keep doing it and hopefully it will get easier each year.

I have done it and I am doing it again this year. After losing 5 family members to cancer it was a very emotional day and some of the signs are very upsetting. I have seen ones saying " to find a cure - soon" and there was a little 5 year old who had one saying 2 " to say thanks for all they did to help me" It is very emotionally straining

Completely agree, done the race quite a few times now and never fails to bring a lump to the throat. The 5k is fine, doesn't matter whether you walk or run/jog, but just be prepared for the emotions! Good luck!

I'm running it this year (and I am completely unfit) but am following the Race for Life's programme to be able to run it. It's 6 weeks long but as the RFL where I am isn't until July I'm doing each week twice. I'm just doing the second 1st week where on a Mon, Wed and Fri I have to run for a minute and walk for 2 minutes and repeat 5 times so it only takes 15 minutes. Next two weeks are running for 2 minutes and walk for 1 minute and repeat 8 times.

It is very emotional, last year I lost my mum to cancer on 14 April 2009 and the RFL was in May and I found it very hard. I decided to run it this year because the struggle that people who have cancer go through is nothing in comparison to the struggle that I will face getting fit enough to do it. I've never been able to jog / run even when I was younger!
