Just wondering if any of you have done these and do "proper" race horses ever stand a chance??

Any details on both our dress and what is expected would be great thanks a lot

Oh and any sites that would be handy to visit on these things??

xx

I was wondering this aswell! Also do very very fine horses stand a chance? I probably wouldnt do it with donkey anyway as even though she has being a racehorse as an excuse, i dont think it quite excuses her of some of her faults!

So do you think he would have a chance??

There's a user on here called cornwallexracers.
PM her & she'll be able to give you all the info.
I think the classes are judged on suitability for new job (ie adaptability to a life outside of racing). Lumps bumps & other signs of high mileage wear & tear are ignored (although obviously horse must be sound.)

For the real ROR showing classes which qualify for Hickstead-No am afraid most proper racehorses will not stand a chance- not unless you can get your horse looking like a fat show hunter with clean legs am afraid...
Its a bit of a pot hunter's class for the showing pro's...

However there are other classes- which are less illustrious showing classes run for the ex racehorse at a very amateur level...and these tend to be the true ex racers.

My ex racer, rather highly strung but I competed him in Show Hack classes he was 15.3. I rode him at a few county shows and he won

On a good day, he was difficult to beat, but when he was bad OMG! he was awful lol and i couldnt even get him to move

without him having a complete fit!

I think if the horse is nicely put together, moves well and holds enough weight (mine didnt) then you should be okay

There is a difference between the ROR & the Ex Racer classes. As already stated the ROR classes are for horses that have been in training, but have not necessarily actually raced. To be able to compete in the Ex Racer classes the horses must have been raced under rules.

Have PM'd you eventer88.

For anyone else interested in the Ex-racers club, the classes are set up for real ex-racehorses, all lumps, bumps and scars are ignored, and the horses are judged on their way of going and their adaptability to their new career, these aren't classes for fat, clean legged show thoroughbreds!!

It costs £10 to register your ex-racehorse with us for life, and this gives you the opportunity to enter any classes or clinics organised by the club. There is no fee for the owner/rider to register with us. All classes are qualifiers for the Champion of Champions to be held at our National Show at Arena UK in september/october time.

For anyone thats interested here is a link to the club's site, where you can find the forum and more info on show dates or you can PM me.
The Ex-Racers Club

I thought that the horses could have been in training to compete at the ex racers club shows?

Eventer 88 - it all depends how far you want to go and how many blemishes your horse has got from racing.... the ex racers club is brilliant in the fact that they ignore lumps bumps and old injuries etc, but for ROR, this is not overlooked..... Good luck in whatever you choose to do..... If you have an exceptionally clean limbed TB, go straight for the ROR SEIB. If like most of us there are lumps and bumps, then at least you still can compete with the ex racers club.
