Hello, advice good or bad

So I’ve ridden since 7 and I’m 43 now confident rider however not the greatest due to having big gaps in riding over the years my loan horse is being returned to his owner to be retired and I have been looking into adopting a ex race horse. Is this a terrible idea any advice I would appreciate.
 
Lex I have looked up your posting history, and I would say that TBs often have very quick reactions, especially when they are straight off the track. Unless your riding has improved a fair bit since you were asking about stirrup restraining straps to help you stay on a shying horse less than a year ago, then perhaps an ex racer, especially straight off the track, wouldn't be the best horse to take on.

There are some that would be OK, but it would be safer to only to look at those which retired from the track some time before and have been through a good retraining and assessment process.

If you really want to, check out Godolphin rehoming. They are quite good at matching riders up and all history is known and have been retrained by the staff. The ROR also has some info about a variety of care but they are just basic things
 
I can recommend BTRC. Their horses are permanently on loan, and the horses have been through Retraining, so they will match you to your requirements, and your riding standard, and be completely honest about them.

Yeah appreciate the comment. Tbh like I said I’m not the best rider however I’m confident and experienced with horses. The reason I asked about the stirrup straps (which were poop by the way) was because I have a foot disability and my foot frequently falls out and I knew the horse I took on was spooky, which he was however nothing I couldn’t handle.

Then you should easily manage one of the sane ones, and they are lovely horses, I'm looking for one myself.

I don't know where you are but the Cheshire retraining centre near the M6 junction 17 constantly has nice horses going through.

Thanks - I’m in barry South Wales but willing to travel. Hopefully we will find one 🤞
