Has anyone used the British and Irish Thoroughbred agency or British Thoroughbred Retraining centre to find a TB? I used to have TBs in my younger years (and have had a TBx more recently) and desperately want to get back to horse ownership (but don’t have a 5 figure budget sadly). I like the idea of somewhere that will start basic ridden training and the fact they are rehoming and trying to find a good home (that’s the impression I get on their resistive websites). Thanks

I know someone who bought unseen from the British and Irish tb agency and very happy, very green though but they expected that. However as far as I know they are more like an agent than a retraining centre so the horses are coming from different places and will vary in whether they've had retraining.

Fred and Rowena Cook? I just saw one on my fb feed hence thinking of them, I don’t mean that particular horse but might be worth keeping an eye out.
Vici Morse, Herefordshire? I had a lovely boy off her years ago. Think she still does a bit of rehoming. She is/was on here but i can’t think of her user name.

It depends where in the country you are and how far you are willing to travel.

A lot of "retrainers" popped up during lockdown and the number of messages we got from people wanting us to give or sell them horses cheap for them to reschool and sell on was unbelievable! So of you do find one near you do your research into them! The majority of the ones who messaged us I wouldn't have given a hobby horse to!

Thanks everyone some good suggestions here. I’m in the south, would travel a few hours.

I’ve seen a few advertised as unraced because they were too slow so didn’t make it past training. Is there any advantage if they are unraced?

Not really. They have still done all the work of a racehorse without actually going to the track. It also restricts what you can do in RoR.
