Hi guys

Sorry, saw loads of racehorse posts and I thought I'd join in too ...

We recently lost our amazing ex racer - who went way too soon and was finally getting somewhere after a very troubled start to his new life after racing ...

I still cant think about what's happened BUT after a lot of thinking, we decided to get another one and give them the same chance B had ... plus my mare who is currently 6 months pregnant needs a companion sooner rathern than later so they have time to bond over winter.

We pick her up Friday and although feel mega guilty for getting her so soon after losing my boy, we felt it was the only way forward :(

Will post some photos of her when we pick her up but she's four years old, bright bay and stands at 16.1 ...

How can you be excited and sad at the same time?? :o

You can feel guilty and excited. Both are valid emotions and sadly no matter how much of one or the other you feel it will not bring your ex-racer back so enjoy your wonderful memories of him AND look forward to getting that cracking little mare home :)

Good luck and cant wait for more pics :D

I know how you feel. I was absolutely devastated at losing Catembi (in avatar) & still can't always talk about him, even tho it was Feb 2007.

I didn't feel it was disrespectful to get another one within a month or two as he left such a huge hole that another horse was the only way of filling it enough for it to be bearable.

Good luck with your new girl!

Thank you all for your kind words ...I know you are right, you can have two emotions at the same time … I just feel bad writing ohhh exciting for the new horse yet only recently I was crying over B … arghhh its so hard.
Will deffo post more photo once we get her home – what makes it even more special is that Ive been told the horse was bought from the sales by a lovely family that loved her to death – the husband apparently cried when the trainer told him she’s have to retire (after many races including a win!) so Im going to make sure they’re still part of her life and watch her progress into a wonderful show horse (hopefully lol).
:D

I'm sorry for your loss. She looks like a cracker though, and you're not replacing your last horse or anything silly like that. I hope you have the best time with her.

Wishing you all the very best for your future with your new girl - she looks lovely, btw.

I know it's hard coming to terms with losing a beloved horse, but you obviously have so much love and experience to share - what better tribute to your lovely B than to give another ex-racer a chance at a new and rewarding life.

She's lovely! Remember, not a replacement (there won't be another B) but a new horse.

Good luck with her.

This ^^^^^^. Don't feel bad. You're giving another one a chance at a new life. Your other horse will always be important to you, as will this one. They are all individuals, and we love them for it. She looks a gorgeous little mare, and I hope you have a lot of fun with her. I was fortunate in that I already had another horse when I lost my Bob, but if I hadn't ,then I would have got another soon after. And that doesn't mean Bob means any the less to me, as I still miss him greatly, always will . But it helps me, gives me something to focus on, as I'm sure it will you. Good luck with her! :)

Well we do and that was part of the reason why I wanted to get another … my arab is currently in foal (due April 13) … B was a massive part of her life– (eventually!) they went everywhere together and he was going to play a big part in the foals life especially when it came to weaning. I share my yard with a friend so she will always have company but I wanted one for myself to have that special bond with again before foalie comes …

Thank you all for taking the time to reply xxx
